The general inclination to stick one’s head in the sand and pretend that being “not political” is a morally justified position that puts you above the bullshit of Washington is pure centrist masturbation.
Everything is political. Ignoring it makes you a sap, not a sage.
"X shouldn't be political." OK but it is. Now what?

I’ve had an essay bouncing around in my head for a couple of weeks. It’s been persistent, begging attention, so I sat down to start it today even though I have a novel that needs revising. Sometimes you have to go where the writing energy is. It’s all good practice.

My rapture hot take is we’d never know bc no one’s ascending. I left church a looong time ago, but Jesus was pretty clear about life being a group project. We’re all interconnected. I don’t think He’s assigning anyone “VIPs” when we still have so many people starving and hurt on this earth. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had a dream last night that a bunch of megacorp skyscraper buildings grew legs and stomped around the world’s major cities, crushing smaller buildings and homes and people, and if that’s not an apt metaphor for how corporate interests are destroying the world, I don’t know what is.

So new studies showcase that the more you know how GenAi works, the less likely you are to use it! 😌

This reminds me of ai advocates who claim that those who refuse to use GenAi do so because they dont know how it works, yet it’s the opposite!
The less you know the more you are likely to use GenAi
The Less You Know About AI, the More You Are Likely to Use It
AI can seem magical to those with low AI literacy, a new study finds. That, in turn, might make them more willing to try it.

Today in AI Is Not A Good Source For Learning About The World's Most Misunderstood Body Part, meet this ChatGPT gem.

Funnily enough, we're actually going to talk about how most of this is kinda sorta right (for small values of right), as a cautionary tale about generative AI.

Today, I’m thinking about every person who has ever said (rudely), “an English major? What are you going to do with THAT?”

I, along with other humanities folks, clocked the danger of this administration 10 yrs ago.

Meanwhile, look how many STEM bros have sold their souls to fascism.

The assertion of technology “rights” and the systematic removal of human rights are part of the same fascist project.
No. It’s not sentient, you clowns. Stop selling this garbage in “news” articles.

I try to be rly visible & vocal when it comes to masking and it wrecks me every time I get responses from ppl who are thankful bc they feel so isolated and alone bc otherwise caring folks won’t do the bare minimum & wear a mask—reposted this old, but relevant read. Plz read & consider masking again.

New blog post is up!

It's next up in my multi-part series critical of GenAI evangelism and an expansion of a presentation I've given for colleagues at my (GenAI-obssessed) institution this year.

In short, I want people to understand this tech and its risks so they stop thinking it's magic.

I’ll also add that anything marketed to you and free to use/freely given usually means that you (and your data) are the product being sold. This is true in the micro (individuals) and the macro (organizations).
If the AI bubble really is bursting, please take this lesson from it:

Nothing marketed to you this relentlessly is ever worth it. If it was, they wouldn’t need to beg you.

This is in the replies and it demonstrates a real issue which is if you find profundity from an AI, you’re responding to something profound a human being wrote that was vacuumed up and what ends up happening is you thank AI and not only don’t thank the person, you have no idea they were involved
