It’s about veterans but not really Veterans Day.

It’s about soldiers but only sorta.

Fathers, Sons, Soldiers, and Poetry
We both hid a part of ourselves behind a soldier’s body armor and camo paint and when that didn’t work we retreated behind the smile of a beer drinking buddy.

I am calling upon the people of Ireland to immediately begin construction of a thread on this site about how you or someone you know was roasted for a fashion choice. We need it.

All roasts must have come from Irish people *only*. Please respect this important rule, it makes a difference.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

This Veterans Day I want to acknowledge the Black veterans of WWII who fought fascism and nazism and came home to fight for civil rights and democracy here. New research shows Black veterans were critical in securing the voting rights currently under attack.

Authors, Beware! There's a firm called "ClaimsHero" doing aggressive social media outreach claiming to
"help" you file to get $ in the Anthropic class action. In fact, it's a bait-and-switch, they are luring authors to sign up with them, then OPTING THEM OUT of the class action so they'll get zilch.

I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.

My route:

1. I got Felix’d and mainlined SKZ for a whole winter.
2. Decided to listen to BTS for some Elder Statesmen contrast
3. Joon put out INDIGO and I had to listen to MORE BTS for context
4. Oh look I seem to be down the rabbit hole.
What was your route into BTS?

My route in 3 steps

1. Background noise of ARMY friends
2. Strawberry Boy
3. "Wow this year has been depressing. Strawberry Boy makes me happy and BTS seem to make my friends happy... maybe I should explore." and then my ARMY friends welcoming me so enthusiastically.

Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.

Me: I am the first and only person writing for BTS in this fest. Exciting!

Also me: now is definitely the time to go with something experimental and weird that absolutely nobody will read.
