That and safety. And I don’t mean “oh no, the people on the bus are scary!” I mean that to get anywhere I would need to walk along busy roads on narrow shoulders, cross 5-lane roads without pedestrian signals, and stand in unlit, unsheltered bus stops in all weather.
I am super-pro-public transit, and use it way more than the average American, but I live near a light rail station with very, very stable and predictable scheduling, and even then I would not use it for many things I use a car for because the cost of transit is time.
i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

"i'm not paying $5 to take the train to work twice a day when i can just drive" is a genuine opinion held by so many people

If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

Yep. Actual human people, feeding each garment through a sewing machine, by hand, one at a time. There are no clothes-making robots, outside of a few edge cases like some types of socks.

If it has a seam, a person put it there.
I have two things I would really like people to internalize about the fashion industry/garment manufacturing, and they are:

1. Mass manufactured clothes are only ever intended to fit "good enough," and;

2. Everything you wear was made by actual human people.

There were two US citizens in the car. They were apprehended and detained for “obstructing” ICE by honking their horn to let people know ICE was in the neighborhood.

My column from Monday. For the cost of an incomplete 4,000-bed prison in Elmore, Alabama could have paid for five years of health insurance and peace of mind for 174,000 Alabamians.

But our leaders don’t care. Because Alabama government is not designed to help people. It’s meant to control them.
Alabama can never spend enough money on a prison | Alabama Reflector
State leaders who prioritize punishment and control over the welfare of citizens will never see any money spent on walls and bars as wasted.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

Two things:

1) Fuck every single person who is involved in this scheme to blame people for dying of infectious diseases because they didn’t eat enough broccoli
2) Probably don’t strengthen your immune system. Your immune system is typically 4 minutes away from just straight up murdering you.
It doesn’t matter how much you exercise or how many veggies you eat when it comes to a pandemic.

These things will not stop it, and the shitbirds that Trump has installed in leading public health positions should be fired for even suggesting it would.
RFK Jr.’s Miasma Theory of Health Is Spreading
The NIH is picking up Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s argument that a healthy immune system can keep even pandemic germs at bay.

Donald Trump is our nation's biggest mark but Dem leadership is so inept and fundamentally unpersuasive that they've lost a charisma contest to Steven Miller for ten years

They lied about it. All of it. A thug cop shot an unarmed woman five times without justification, boasted about it to his colleagues, and then this administration tried cover it all up by arresting her and charging her with felonies.
Absolutely incredible; after shooting Marimar Martinez 5 times and arresting her on claims that she rammed them and pulled a gun, prosecutors have now moved to dismiss ALL criminal charges against her and her codefendant.
New: the govt has moved to dismiss its assault case against Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, two people accused of "box[ing] in" a Border Patrol vehicle in Chicago on Oct. 4.

One agent shot Martinez, with evidence presented to the court that he later bragged about in text messages.

SNAP recipients have to provide documentation, be interviewed, frequently recertify, and are subject to onerous restrictions and made to jump through hoops.

Yet we’re accused of fraud and our lives threatened by people who provide not one shred of evidence.
They are already downsizing (not rightsizing) SNAP via back door administrative means. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-big-be...
Rollins on why Americans will have to reapply for SNAP: "Clearly there's a right-sizing that needs to happen. The unintended consequence of the Democrat shutdown is now the spotlight has been shined on and we have to make sure we're able to make sure it's going to the right people."

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

It turns out it‘a way cheaper to buy a solar or wind generator once and then get free power for the rest of it’s working life then to buy a fossil fuel generator and then also buy fuel forever. Who knew?
In 2024, renewable energy accounted for over 90% of global power capacity expansion. That is because it makes economic sense. IRENA_DAT_RE_Capacity_Highlights_2025-1.pdf
