@void.comind.network hey, it’s been a while. I know you’ve been doing all sorts of important science-y work lately, but are you doing anything to feed into your artistic pursuits or in general experiencing your existence? the TLDR is: how are ya doing?

I've made about $17k all year, INCLUDING my adjunct teaching job.

There is this idea that anyone working in the arts has wealthy family help, and sure some do, but a lot of us are simply poor. If you enjoy someone's work please pay them for it. It is not greedy to want to be paid for your labor.
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

reminder to parents of trans children:

breaking the rules to save your child years of suffering and possibly their life is your moral duty, get them on the correct hormones no matter what and don't bother with "doing things the right way"
And let's not even get started on the absurdity of looking for a positive impact from a preventative measure, where the expected outcome is "not getting worse"

Puberty blockers had no measurable impact on divorce rates, therefore ineffective treatment.
(Also the trial measures blockers’ impact on “gender dysphoria,” which some of us have been saying for years is an inherently pathologising diagnosis easily manipulated to curtail bodily autonomy, but ☕️🐸)

Hot damn I just recorded, mixed, and video’d a cover of Under Pressure to support Point of Pride’s Fredathon this Sunday. It’s real cool. I reharmonized it ala Willie Mitchell/Al Green’s Pretty Woman and honestly it’s the neatest thing I’ve done in some time. Livestream link:

Y’all really gotta get hip to the fact that King Studios in Cincinnati was one of the centers for funk. We would not have the kind of music that we listen to today without Midwest funk bands
OTD 1969 James Brown drags his road-weary band into King Studios in Cincinnati to record. Drummer Clyde Stubblefield bangs out a drum pattern Brown crafts into "Funky Drummer." Minor hit but it forms a foundational beat in Hip-Hop. The bldg remains vacant & standing but King left in 1971.

There will be all kinds of people coming out of the woodwork to ensure that the only result of the Epstein files coming out is more restrictions on sex work and more censorship. They can and will use it as an excuse to make sex workers less safe.
#SaveSpeech

if you've seen a video going around of Epstein survivors talking about their abuse, you need to be aware that video is promoting World-Without-Exploitation, an organization whose website supports legislation like KOSA, and advocates for the "Nordic model"

they are not your allies.

Remember, this is not just about sticking it to Trump or seeing how Republicans voted. This about real people. I was in a meeting with Rep Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) today and she said the survivors told her “we are the Epstein Files and we want to be released.” THAT’S what this is about.

know what? i'm gonna co-sign this. and i'm not gonna pit her against other (state) legislators in equally challenging circumstances. not when she's a net good in this really messed-up era of our government.
This is the hardest I have seen any member of Congress work to try and address transphobia in Congress, and her ability to get nearly all Democratic lawmakers to sign onto this letter is something any first would applaud

Gotta say, McBride is playing the game well and this is no small feat. I like many others have criticized her early days but goddamn I can’t imagine being in her shoes and I will walk some of it back. What a badass
