I hope someday we defeat fascism and in the far future, No Kings Day is celebrated as a federal holiday, and little children leave out dance mixtapes and cookies for the Resistance Frog, who leaves pocket Constitutions in their shoes.

WELKER: What do you say to the allegation Trump is going to meddle in midterms & that's what he's doing in GA?

JOHNSON: I find it comical a senator from GA is talking about schemes. GA was example A of that

W: There are no Qs about 2020 that have not been answered

J: That's your opinion

W: Nope

We've been screaming this for a long time, and people need to hear us:

What the Trump Cult wants is an artificial hierarchy imposed on the rest of humanity, in which everyone gets to harm with impunity those lower in the pecking order.

ANY resistance to this artificial hierarchy is unacceptable.

People are doing the thing again, where if a red district flips blue, they assume that Democratic Party messaging, whatever it happened to be, worked to convince Republicans to switch to voting Democrat.

Instead of people who rarely vote getting fired up and deciding to participate.

A tip from a regular guy to Democratic politicians:

Trying to dunk on egg prices like it's still November 2024 while Americans are watching in horror as we slide into a 1930's Germany dystopian nightmare makes you look like consultant-dependent political hacks that have no idea what his happening.

This is really telling. It's not enough for protest to be peaceful. Mike Johnson wants you to not resist at all. That's how they could justify teargassing the peaceful march in Portland.
MIKE JOHNSON: There have been tragedies in Mpls brought about in large measure by governor & local officials inciting violence

WELKER: They're calling for peaceful protest

J: They're also saying to resist

W: But these state & local officials didn't pull the triggers that left these Americans dead

Because women and girls (and, in the case of how my biomom talked about undergraduate boys, young men, too) aren't people, see? They're objects to be used and enjoyed and consumed. And if they happen to be on the younger side? What, they're sexual beings! Teenagers fuck all the time! You a prude?

See, I was born to this culture. I was born when both my parents were in graduate school, and so I grew up hearing all about how normalized sexual favors are in academia, how both male AND female professors, for that matter, regarded sexually exploiting students as a perk of the job in some circles.

I've blabbered a ton in threads about this, but I have to unpack what this actually means, because what I'm going to call "Academic Culture" normalizes sexual exploitation and regards it as, at worst, a petty crime akin to doing cocaine or public urination. 🧵
As more academic names keep coming up in the Epstein files, I keep thinking about this NYT interview with the Bard president from a few years ago, and wondering how many people were rationalizing in similar ways.

Imagine thinking like this. Like "Well Trump didn't cancel this one state legislature race, for a seat that will have another election before the legislature even meets, so therefore he can never cancel any elections, don't worry or make any plans for that."
A few broader thoughts:

1) This election happened, period.

2) It happened in Texas, no less.

3) It happened even though Trump himself took an intense interest in winning it.

If Trump could cancel elections or ordain their outcomes, then why didn't he do that tonight?
BREAKING: Texas Democrat Taylor Rehmet just won a *massive* landslide to flip a deep-red Senate district. He's up by 14 points in a Trump+17 seat—an overperformance of more than 30 points.

How did he do it? Here's our full writeup:

The most succinct way of describing the Biden years is an attempt to return to normalcy in highly abnormal times
I think he geniunely believed that it would have been inappropriate and believed in preserving norm. This was in some sense noble. In a most greater and more meaningful sense, he was stupid and wrong.

Don’t tell us what can’t be done in Texas. When we show up #TexasTough, we change the game. Today we proved what we’ve known all along: Texas is in play.

Honest to God...if there's places where candidates can still file and run, you, yes you reading my skeet, might be able to beat an incumbent Republican for sheriff, or judge, or dog catcher.

Contest every election. Make them spend. Make them work. Make them look like fools.

They are unpopular...
32 point swing in a Texas election with the winner being outraised 2.3 million to 350k. That is difficult to encapsulate. There are people in the republican infrastructure *freaking* out right this second.

The Media Malpractice That Sent America Tumbling Into Trumpism

A lot of people who spent years insisting that the so-called “alarmists” were being hysterical have started, tentatively, to admit that maybe they got it wrong. Even Jon Stewart, who chided liberals, got it wrong.

Unmarked car, no lights or police insignia. Masked armed men leap out. Victim not in the act of committing any crime. This is not how a serious federal law enforcement agency acts in a free society.

How is this not supposed to be a “right wing paramilitary force loyal to the regime”?
This is just insane. It’s only a matter of time before DHS kills another innocent person here.

There is very likely going to be a blue wave in November 2026. Trump will do what he can to disturb the election and stop Rs from losing the House. It probably won't work, but the probability of a tail outcome is worrisome, and the attempt is the story
