I almost missed World Octopus Day!? Whew!
In celebration of World Octopus Day, we wanted to revisit one of our favorite cephalopod sightings, the glass octopus — Vitreledonella richardi filmed during a month-long #PhoenixIslandsCoral expedition in 2021.

Hey just so we’re clear - DOGE accessed and stole all of our data, gave it to Palantir, and now ICE is partnered with Palantir in order to track *all of us*

Palantir is run by evil billionaire Peter Thiel. Truly, scarily evil.
ICE Is Paying Palantir $30 Million to Build ‘ImmigrationOS’ Surveillance Platform
In a document published Thursday, ICE explained the functions that it expects Palantir to include in a prototype of a new program to give the agency “near real-time” data about people self-deporting.

This sounds good in the face of it- but it’s really aimed at disabling legal cannabis sales, which Ohioans approved in a special vote last year. Since they can’t legally NOT allow it, they are going to try to tax it so highly that it’s unaffordable.
Commentary: Gov DeWine's proposal to fund a child tax credit with a doubling of tobacco taxes couples a proven poverty-fighting tool with a tax against Ohio's leading preventable cause of death in one of the most consequential anti-poverty and public health measures in recent memory

Seventy Eight degrees of Wisdom was my tarot bible when I got serious about reading cards. Rachel Pollack, her memory is a blessing indeed♥️
rachel pollack, may her memory be a blessing, was one of the original dolls

this is the oldest trans book i own

it was my first tarot book, a gift when i was in middle school

it’s a guide to many different takes on the tarot—a classic!

it took 10+ years before i learned she was trans like me

A large part of fighting the darkness is putting in the time and effort to build things-- things that make the universe better.
The darkness isn't beaten by not doing any work other than making a quick quip for easy applause, & it certainly isn't beaten by telling everyone to just give up.

I’ve been gone for a while. I’m trying to not be on Facebook because its badness makes me crazy. But unfortunately it seems to be the only way to keep in touch with a lot of relatives, etc. weirdly too, in my rural area, SO many local businesses and events are accessible ONLY through a FB page 🤷‍♀️

This is why I just couldn’t do it any longer.
This is a good description. I’m still sad a lot of my Twitter community came here for a minute and mostly migrated back there.
Every once in a while I check in on Twitter/X and it’s like walking into some kind of white supremacist street gang fraternity house and finding a bunch of my friends and colleagues hanging out in a corner talking about grant applications while passersby are getting assaulted across the room

Here in rural Ohio we have a growing Guatemalan community- mostly here as result from being recruited and brought in by local poultry processing plants. We get constant complaints that they’re here. Did they just randomly PICK this small town in Ohio? Who do you think BROUGT them here?Of course not
Meatpacking/industrial farming in Iowa literally advertises jobs to people in other countries, encourages them to work illegally, and then uses the threat of deportation to keep those workers from expecting humane treatment or fair wages. Their economy would be fucked without that labor.
Iowa lawmakers passed a bill on Tuesday that would make it a crime to enter the state after being deported or denied entry into the U.S. The passage puts the state on track to join Texas in enforcing immigration outside the federal system.

Going to go and take a guess that part of the reason young people are unhappy is that when a report comes out showing that they're unhappy, it gets framed as a 'SOCIAL MEDIA DID THIS' thing rather than older generations hoarding wealth, power and destroying the planet in the process
