Paddington Bear becoming the UK's go-to psychopomp is one of the very weirdest things to happen in this very weird decade.

To be clear: Maccabi Tel Aviv’s supporters do not only *sing about* sex crimes, murder and genocide. Plenty of them have been personally doing that stuff for at least two years.

Tbh I assumed that if your paper referenced another one it meant you had read the paper, understood it, and were relating its content to your ideas. It turns out it actually meant "this paper exists" and now it doesn’t even mean that.
One thing I'm finding surprising about this whole thing about AI hallucinating academic references which are then cited and enter the "evidence base" is how many authors seem willing to cite material that they haven't even verified exists, let alone got as far as actually reading. V poor practice.

It’s not just that destroying this one country’s government and installing criminals to help you loot their resources makes this war look bad. It shows what most of the other wars were, and what the people who sold them to the public are.

UPDATE: in September, Luigi's bogus terrorism charges were dropped and he was cleared off all terroristic allegations. Today, the judge ruled the interrogation of Luigi Mangione inadmissible due to failure of police to Mirandize him and Luigi's repeated statements that he did not wish to talk.

It's mad how fundamental we think of as something like the tomato in pretty much all of global cuisine, but it wasn't introduced into Europe until the 16th century, and even then the British (of course) didn't eat them at first because they thought they were poisonous.

The older I get, the more my politics mature from childish, naïve beliefs like "the world is complicated and leaders have to make hard decisions" to more serious, adult principles like "hurting people is bad and helping people is good."

It saddens me to say that I’m sure we’ll see an incident like this again, as more people with unnecessarily enormous vehicles succumb to car-brain

True Detective S1-3: There is a deeply unsettling supernatural element to the show, an undercurrent of life and death, past and future, a sense of piercing the veil, but always in the context of extremely unreliable narrators and allegory.

True Detective S4: Yeah, there's ghosts. Ghosts everywhere.

Near where I live there's a model of a Spitfire that was paid for by local people who did a whip round for it, because you could do that then. You could build a Wellington bomber in 24 hours. You would however struggle to do the same for an F-35, and that's because IT'S NOT WORLD WAR 2 ANYMORE.
Sean Bell, Skys military analyst, says we are unprepared for war & he cites as an example WW2 when we had 400 RAF squadrons compared to less than 10 squadrons today. I guess we need more squadrons!

Entirely coincidentally Bell is a former RAF fighter pilot & Air Vice Marshal

The combination of flu and strikes could collapse the NHS, according to Wes Streeting.

Good thing you could stop one of those things happening right this second then, isn't it Wes?

Setting Madeley aside for a moment, I think part of the issue is that once people realise *just how much* wages have been allowed to fall away from where they should be, the figure seems insurmountable and therefore ridiculous to ask for, but that's our fucking money, stolen from us by capital.
Richard Madeley "How realistic is it for any profession to expect to be paid in real terms what they were paid in 2008?"

The UK is the 6th largest economy in the world & the rich have never been richer, but Madeley thinks the rest of us should just accept being poorer #GMB
