The United States is an irredeemable and vile country that must be dismantled for the betterment of humanity.
Lord have mercy on me in two days because Peacock Lane is starting soon and I live directly south. Gotta reprogram myself not to drive within a one mile radius of there for a bit.

Like a lot of younger people who weren't around at the time might not know it but the whole "PSL are too radical and tankie this is insane!" doesn't jive with "The people who protested against Iraq were the only sane ones in society at the time"

Anyone notice that now there’s a new face begging for money on Wikipedia? Surely that’s because Jimmy Wales burned up all his good will?

This movie whipped ass and is probably the most beautiful movie I saw this year. A very close second for my favorite movie of the year, only behind OBAA.
TRAIN DREAMS is on @netflix.com today BUT it’s also still showing at the @hollywoodtheatre.org, which is where you should catch it if you can—through next Tuesday. It’s worth it to see it big. My review for the @portlandmercury.com:

Also very beautiful: William H. Macy.

Just got a survey polling me about my feelings about raiding the PCEF for the Moda Center. Good god, it's like piranhas getting a whiff of blood with all the groups trying to rob the PCEF.

Disagreement on policy is welcome and reasonable, but calling me a Nazi for cosponsoring an ordinance to ban price-fixing is completely unacceptable. Councilor Ryan edited his post, but did not disclose the edit and explain the nature of the substantive change, so it’s here for posterity.

Only a couple of major news outlets (CNN, USA) are covering this at all. You would think if the goal was clicks and views, this would be all over the media. If clicks are not the goal, it makes you think about: what is?

Pel meni. The base are traditional Russian dumplings, but the toppings (runny sriracha, curry powder, cilantro) are very much not traditional.

Capitalism is incredible. Sorry, former teacher, your retirement fund is gone because 5 guys who've collectively never worked a full hour told the banks to put all the money in the country into virtual girlfriend futures

Portland’s Mayor, much of City Council, and many Portlanders spent recent days aligning themselves directly with Trump’s policies towards our precariously housed and homeless neighbors, while rabidly promoting a local extension of it.

It’s been utterly disgraceful and profoundly disappointing.
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

There are a lot of Portlanders who consider themselves progressive but turn reactionary when they see visible poverty.

The urge to just make poverty disappear from sight instead of working toward holistic solutions is why we don’t have nice things in this country.

Poverty is a social creation.

We were always in for a meltdown about the parks levy, because if it failed all the loudest people rn would instead be blaming progressives for failing to keep our parks out of disrepair and dilapidation on a shoestring budget in about 1-2 years.

Early results show roughly 53 percent of Portland voters favored a new parks levy measure. The measure would set up a new, increased property tax to support the city's parks system. While the results could change as more ballots are counted, parks levy supporters are celebrating the early returns.
