Extremely sad to learn per this post from @thecure.com that Perry Bamonte has died after a short illness at home yesterday. Glad to have seen him at numerous points with the band over the years, including the most recent tour.

The Silent Partner is on Kanopy. Wish I'd known that before I started watching on DailyMotion. Their version looks great, but the volume is too low, and at a certain point, the screen froze. Still grateful to DM; invaluable when I was researching films starring Charlotte and/or Serge Gainsbourg.

Great shot of a great set of eyes.

As LaBruce notes, "the cinematographer, Billy Williams, shot Women in Love, Sunday, Bloody Sunday, and the Iraq sequence of The Exorcist."

Now watching The Silent Partner, which is living up to my expectations: Canada plays Canada, Curtis Hanson wrote the screenplay, Oscar Peterson composed the score, John Candy a treat as a bank worker, and Elliot Gould and Susannah York bring the odd-couple chemistry. It's also a Bruce LaBruce fave.

“Went viral” is an old stock phrase in journalism that really does not capture the dynamic of how X dot Com has been tuned to give people like the one specific legislator here the power to intentionally cause this kind of outcome
Texas A&M University will not reinstate a lecturer who was fired after a video of her teaching about gender identity in a children’s literature class went viral, despite a faculty appeals panel unanimously concluding that her dismissal was not justified.
Texas A&M won’t reinstate fired lecturer despite findings
A vice chancellor upheld the firing of Melissa McCoul, seen in a viral video being confronted by a student on her gender identity teachings, saying the termination was done with “good cause.”

Will Europe’s new creators of Christian imagery be allowed to push the boundaries of what Christian art can represent and to whom it might speak? Nativity scenes bring into focus two defining questions of our time: who belongs, and how far belonging can stretch.
How a Nativity Scene Sent Europe Into a Tizzy
A controversial Brussels nativity scene begs the question: Should explicitly Christian imagery continue to be a part of Europe’s civic space, and if so, who has the authority to define it?
