Paul has worked in the House of Commons since he was 19 years old, for more than 46 years

It was an absolute joy to interview him about his lifetime of service

Seeing the replies on this and noticing an awful lot of (hopefully accidental) misinformation, so I thought I might give my tuppence on it. Feel free to correct me if you notice anything wrong 1/?
Children should be able to thrive no matter where they’re born.

Scrapping the Two Child Cap lifts 450,000 children out of poverty - and over 1,200 in Kensington & Bayswater.

This is the difference that only a Labour government can make.

In cases like this I always want to give the journalists / editors the benefit of the doubt, but honestly this is pretty brazen. I really worry that major news organisations in the UK are honing content to social media mores in incredibly damaging ways now, and don't even realise how damaging it is.
Incredible. This morning on the BBC site story was titled "Puppy farm ban promised in plans to improve animal welfare" with puppy pic up top. Later changed to "Hen cages and pig crates face ban" and gives top focus to policy's opponents. The puppy/RSPCA angle is 20 paragraphs in, as "meanwhile". ~AA

ahahahahaha yes Labour Together you should definitely set fire to Labour's workers' rights agenda just as the country's biggest trade union votes for a leader who thinks you're shit. that's definitely a good idea.

(I don't think for one moment that the govt will actually do this)
I have my criticisms of *aspects* of the employment rights package, but this is an insane proposal, both in policy and party management terms

Given Christmas songs start playing in most big shops some time around early September* then the plot by the Woke Liberati to cancel the festive season isn’t going very well.

*I exaggerate but only a bit.
The UK far right is increasingly infiltrating the Anglican church so this is bang on trend.

I was wrong about Broken Britain
The country can feel divided and lost, but there’s always another side to the story

The Government agredd a compromise to get the bill through. The Lords have ignored that - unconstitutionally.

The govt should do the same. Return to the full version of the bill, pass it with the Parliament Act then reform the Lords to stop this happening again.
The Lords blocked the Employment Right's Bill again last night.

Thanfully on just one point about unfair dismissal...but it's still delaying the WHOLE bill further!

244 to 220.

So who is among the 244?

202 Tories
26 crossbenchers
9 non-affiliated
3 DUP
3 UUP
1 bishop

Look at the names...

A good question. I favour its complete reform, but at least to make it function as part of a democracy we need:
1. Term limits (I suggest 5 years, renewable once)
2. Members appointed by independent body, not PM
3. Cap on total number of members
4. Stop giving them silly titles, it’s embarrassing
Why is the House of Lords?
