gonna be coming back to this one more than a few times
old Soviet joke for our times:

Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to.

Guy says: “looking for an obituary.”

Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.”

Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

This is something I've been trying to communicate for 1.5 years. The people who assumed everything would be fine and both sides are the same have been the worst stewards of democracy there have ever been...besides the people that voted for the end of it.
I do not think anybody is prepared for how quickly and how thoroughly things we've taken for granted our whole lives could change
Look, you may think the Mail is probably exaggerating but the news side of Telegraph is legit: if Euros are considering this, there's smoke

i suspect there are a lot of morons in a lot of european capitals right now wringing their hands about the risk of escalation. here's the truth: the real risk is failure to escalate. backing down is showing weakness. trump will know it.

show strength instead.

once trump’s corporate backers actually are *afraid* of massive foreign retaliation they will start clogging up the group chats demanding trump back down. and he will listen, because ultimately this stupid game has only gone on because of elite complicity

Pre-emptively show strength, even. Ban every company that donated to his ballroom from operating in Europe.

He has conveniently given you a list of cronies! Punish them now and continue as long as he continues considering attacking Denmark!

genuinely if the joint chiefs did a coup to stop this from happening it would be significantly less treasonous to the united states than obeying an order to attack an ally would be

I could be wrong and the future historians will call me a Resistance loon, but it was sign number one for “oh great, this admin is Putin winding up the doll to wreck the shop, as long as folks will let him.” It was just so nakedly obscure, and targeted NATO.

Once again, I am calling on the Democratic National Committee to make it part of the party platform that should Trump invade Greenland, the next Democrat President will simply give it back.

Trumps cronies want mines and drilling.

If they lose it all in 3 years there's no point.

If defense isn't first on the list, they're idiots.

LM Canada and Raytheon UK/Poland need to just be confiscated outright the second it happens.

Take P&W and GE too.

Make clear that this isn't going to be reversed either. If it goes, it goes.

This, and only this, will satisy them:

Cease to call them wrong, and join them in calling themselves right

Silence will not be tolerated

We must place ourselves avowedly with them

We must arrest and return their fugitive slaves with greedy pleasure

We must pull down our free state constitutions

I think the assumption has been "when we start killing people, they'll shut up and fall in line." Which has not, to put it mildly, been borne out
One thing I've been trying to keep in mind: What turns this around for the ICE/CPB/DHS Nazis? What do they do that makes people stop being angry to come out and yell at them in in the freezing cold, follow them around filming them, defending their neighbors? The answer is nothing. It will never stop
Protesters are keeping up the noise outside a hotel reportedly housing ICE agents in downtown Minneapolis.

Some protesters tried to get inside the building through the main entrance, where they were turned away by security.

I broke the story yesterday that masked ICE agents (not DOJ) were removing items including a personal computer from the home of Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who shot Renee Good. I have yet to see a single news outlet cover this or an elected official even acknowledge it.
NEW: These are ICE agents removing evidence from the shooter's home. They are not DOJ, they are Jonathan Ross's friends and coworkers, not DOJ.

This agent removing Ross's personal computer was reported yesterday Jan 9 for boxing in a volunteer and telling them "I'll dedicate my next arrest to you"

Second, and probably most importantly, it's tactically wrong. "No point discussing political opposition to fascism, there won't be elections anyway" cedes victory to your enemies. It's defeatism and nihilism.

They are wrong. A strong liberal government can defend itself by imprisoning and/or executing the fascists. It can ban fascist media. It can expropriate their wealth.

For many decades now the general sentiment that I have witnessed among elected and appointed leaders from the supposed more liberal side is that they basically govern with the permission of, and at the behest of, conservatives, and going beyond that is just illegitimate.

So much of the erosion of rule of law in the US and other western democracies is attributable to this white supremacist man child and a fear of his wealth. Other countries need to learn from the US example - you cannot coopt or negotiate with Musk - his goal is regime change by illicit means.
