I am so fucking over this "well we had it coming because of weakness or whatever" navel-gazing pity party bullshit. Not even the people that voted for the fucker deserve what's happening because we all - ALL OF US - deserve better than what the fuck is going on. I'm here to work to save ALL of us.
Fucking spare me. None of us, even the people that fucking voted for the creep, deserved this. This shit fucking blows and we should be pissed off about it, none of this "well America had it coming you know" nonsense. Fuck that noise.

Trump: We track Santa. We want to make sure that Santa is being good. We want to make sure that he's not infiltrated, that we're not infiltrating into our country a bad Santa. Santa loves Oklahoma like I do. You know, Oklahoma was very good to me in the election

RE: the Bundys and the wholly inadequate response, I'm fine with not beating the allegations when the allegations are "armed defiance of lawful government orders and hostile armed occupancy of government property ends with you going home in a bucket"
If armed militia occupy government property they should count themselves lucky they're not hit with an air strike.
I mean, sure, but Double Ruby Ridge, especially when someone is trying to provoke you into completing a trinity, isn't what we're calling "beating the allegations".

Applying the same amount of zeal as the Occupy protest removal is appropriate

I'm usually fine with "it's stupid but it's fun" (see: my love of both Twister movies and Dante's Peak/Volcano) but that tolerance vanishes when you're promoting stupid untrue shit about things that public opinion actually sways
The flaws with the scenario in A House of Dynamite are really excaberated when watching it next to one of the world's foremost experts on nuclear deterrence.

The RFQ is out for CAHSR's new delivery plan. This builds on the August business case update, under which Bakersfield-Merced is out and Bakersfield-SF is in. This higher-revenue connection allows HSR to enter a P3 that will bring forward financing to allow them to complete the Pacheco Pass crossing.

One of the lines I keep on having to deploy is "Do you want to be right, or do you want to be mad?" You can oftentimes be both, but eventually you'll have to choose between correctly understanding a situation or rejecting bad info and continuing to chase the high of being mad about/at something.
Oh my God, they’re posting Zerohedge. If you’re not familiar, ZH is a right wing propaganda operation, ostensibly about financial markets, but more focused on sewing general discord.

McNeil found out about this trade when Stearns texted him to pick up his shit from the curb outside Citi Field, I guess
@JeffPassan tweeted
The New York Mets will receive a rookie-ball arm in the deal that sends Jeff McNeil to the A's, sources tell ESPN. The Mets also will be sending cash to help cover McNeil's $15.75 million salary, plus the $2 million buyout on a club option for next year.

Scanned my test roll I shot when I got all the lenses I wanted for my Pentax 67 and this one popped so well I have to share it. Good fucking god is 6x7 such a good format and these lenses are *insane*. 6cm x 7cm is so much detail it looks damn near 3D. Totally worth only getting 10 shots a roll.

peaking for myself, I was poking around with ChatGPT as soon as it was released publicly (mostly for code), and my partner has been doing extensive work experimenting with multi-agent LLMs. i work in drone tech, another controversial high-tech field. i am 100% an early adopter Type. and yet....
I've historically been a tech early adopter at work (in an industry that was already using algorithmic scoring, large dataset analyses and so on)

if LLMs were at all useful I'd be the prime candidate for evangelising them. I tried them, they aren't, so i'm not.

Next step - which is *mandatory* - is follow-through. This is an open door, but Democrats still need to walk through it. Deliver on immigration policy, shut down and punish the ICE raids, try to disassemble ICE if the will is still there. Job's not finished.

Beyond accuracy, beyond the bad economics and bad businesses, the thing I find most offensive about LLMs and many of their fans is this insistence that they give you the reward without doing the work. The reward is what happens *because* you did the work.
I know the motto of the day is "Give me convenience or give me death", but actually listen to the people that are the best in their field or those that know their habits and all you see is repetition of the basics and practice, practice, practice. Wax on, wax off.

If an academic depends on a LLM hallucinated study in their work, it's embarrassing and could mean wasted time and lost prestige.

If an attorney depends on a LLM hallucinated precedent or law, it's potentially career ending and already has been for some. I like my license to practice, thanks.
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:

they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

Apparently I missed yesterday that Palmer Lucky is doing a FPGA Game Boy Color, that he's tied it to his idiotic "defense" tech startup, and since people are mad at him about that he's doubled down by selling a version made from the same materials as the drones he's trying to sell what the fuck

Just finished Alan Clarke's Elephant, and it's probably the first film I can genuinely say is shot in the 2nd person. The movie is a straightforward depiction of murders during The Troubles, released in 1989, and is a spectacularly effective statement against the violence of The Troubles.

I really have no idea what will happen when the political tide changes and SV is caught at low tide, having cooked their brains post-COVID and thrown in with the GOP, while their products malfunction and cause havoc or are just outright hatred - but they are unprepared for whatever it might be.

One of my favorite new Keeper update features is the ability to force the aspect ratio to ultra wide if you want to experience it on a standard 16:9 monitor. 32:9 + Noir mode makes for a very different experience.
