Every once in awhile, I think of my favorite “…the fuck did you just say?” phraseology, which is from Homer’s Iliad, proving we have never, ever changed as a species, only less fancily inclined.

“What nonsense has escaped the barrier of your teeth now?”

A lot of 12 year olds are going to learn the phrase "op sec" in the next few years.

"Are those burner shoes?"
"I didn't think --"
"You're not SUPPOSED to fucking THINK, Skylar, you're supposed to follow FUCKING PROTOCOL."
“Inside the heel of the shoe, a small insert can be lifted to reveal the compartment. Then, parents can track the location of their child — or, at least their child’s shoes.”

I've built a machine that can be Confidently Wrong. It can also make pictures that all look a bit the same, as well as make a video of you kissing any celebrity or person you know. In payment, I'd like to boil the world's oceans dry, & steal all literature. For some reason, my head is not on a spike

people love to say they’re “looking for someone to make them laugh” on hinge, but when I pipe nitrous oxide into their house suddenly that’s “psychotic” and “joker-like” 🙄

Even after decades of writing (and publishing what I write) I found this itch.io published essay deeply relatable.
just posted a free/pwyw zine/rant about genre writing and "writing to market" and "finding what you love" (in the market, of course):

Aftermath is one year old, which means (roughly) 52 stream days have come and gone. Time for another. We're going live on Twitch at 4 PM ET to discuss how freelancers are propping up games journalism (and getting paid horribly), Zenimax workers striking, and our anniversary

Suzan Palumbo's new sci-fi novella Countess is a stunning piece of anti-colonial fiction. It's everything I ever wanted from a remix of The Count of Monte Cristo.

There’s never been a challenge like climate change in that: the scale of the threat is so vast, the nature of the threat is so understood, and the technology to ameliorate the threat already exists.

Those three features are unprecedented I think.
THIS IS A HUGE ACHIEVEMENT:

The EU now generates more electricity from wind and solar than from fossil fuels.
