All members of ICE belong in prison. The current administration belongs right there with them. Anyone in government not actively working to get rid of them are accomplices who are equally guilty.

Evergreen:

The first thing cops say after an incident is always a lie.
Black folk will tell you: The 1st thing cops say after an incident is always a lie.🤷🏿‍♂️

They lie because there's upside in it for them, and no downside.

No matter how many times they get caught lying, newspapers will print their next lie as the gospel truth.🤡

And people stop caring before truth hits
ICE lied about the person it shot, claiming he was a "criminal," but NBC finds that he had no criminal history whatsoever. Not even traffic tickets in 12 years! It also lied about the extent of the injuries to its agents....

We should all sit with this ICE murder. Any one of us could be executed by ICE, and our government wouldn’t bat an eye. Instead they’d just lie about us to the world.

Three million people live in Caracas, five million in the metro area. It's one of the densest cities in South America. Remember this in the morning when they try to spin this as anything other than a cold-blooded attack on a major civilian center.

the fascism is mostly done being nice at this point, but it got here through well dressed men politely asking questions while the rest of us were scolded for pointing out where those questions led

the only way it was able to do this is because, as everyone including elon and sam altman have known for years, the datasets for these AIs contain a lot of CSAM

the fact that what just happened doesn't shut down twitter and have elon et al tried in court for allowing is fucking insane
so x dot com’s ai generated CSAM and they admitted it may violate US law and … i haven’t seen in anyone in power say much at all or call to stop using the platform

Blockbuster interview about institutional transphobia at the New York Times that names names of the bigots responsible: A.G. Sulzberger, Joe Kahn, Carolyn Ryan at the top, plus Pamela Paul, Jeremy Peters, Azeen Ghorayshi, Katie J.M. Baker, & an entire anti-trans pro-mgmt splinter group in the union
In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

People being outed as pedophiles, shunned and (hopefully) punished is not remotely similar to people having their careers and lives ruined due to political beliefs, the political beliefs of those they're related to and associate with, or simply being gay, Jewish, an immigrant or not-white

On the critic side, my job is to dig into the choices the author made - why they might have made them, the larger social/literary/historical context of those choices, & how they make me feel. I can't do that with genAI. There's no intention or perspective. It's soulless. All meaning is superfluous.
When you edit a human draft, it has intention and perspective. Your job is to figure out what those are and then get the writing to better align.

AI writing does not have intention. It often isn't saying anything at all. You don't edit it, you resuscitate it. It's more work than writing yourself.

Did you guys know that BLACK CHRISTMAS is my favorite movie about abortion? I wrote about it from that angle and how the violence of the picture overlaps and is linked to the central question of the right to choose. It's one of my favorite movies in general.

I wish the conversation around roles and the sexuality of actors focused less on “can they?” and more on “Gay actors get less opportunities and are disadvantaged professionally.”

Casting gay actors in gay roles is about making being a gay actor a viable professional pursuit.

Remember how I said I have it written into my foreign-language contracts that my work has to be translated by an actual human? This shit is why.

Those book translations are gonna suck. They'll save money putting out books that are going to be painful to read. That's not a great long-term strategy.
French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

KOSA has been defeated several times already and they keep trying over and over until the one time it goes through, at which point it becomes everyone's problem. It will be an unmitigated disaster if this passes and they say, well, sorry, now it's the law. Make sure your creature votes No on this.
Hey romancelandia and fandom peeps! If you live in the U.S. right now you should know that KOSA (along with a slew of censorship bills) are advancing through congress right now. If you care about spicy books and/or fanfiction you should contact your reps right now and tell them to vote NO on KOSA!

We’re running out of good ideas. AI might be how we find new ones.
