I am a cell biologist who studies protein quality control and proteostasis in the secretory pathway with emphasis on GPI-anchored proteins, p24-family of proteins, calnexin, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi, and lysosomes.
Great Bluetorial thread by Yamuna Krishnan @krishnanyamuna.bsky.social on preprint “Organelles harbour pH gradients” recently published by her lab!
Organelles do NOT have a single uniform pH.
And if you think they must, because “protons diffuse fast,” this paper is for you.
A thread on why that assumption is wrong; and what we found instead. 🧵 1/n

What a journey across the world and to the ER! Way to go, Guillaume 👏🏼👏🏼@gthibault.bsky.social
Thank you @jcellsci.bsky.social! It was so much fun chatting with Editor @seemagrewal.bsky.social about my journey, research, and advice for junior scientists.

It’s great that it reads just like our conversation flowed. I sincerely hope it resonates with trainees out there!

These are “can’t miss” events for membrane enthusiasts :)
Calling all #Membrane enthusiasts!
Our #MembraneTrafficking online seminar series is back for the 2025-26 season: 8 fantastic speakers from Nov'25 to Feb'26.
The first talks are already next Thursday (Nov 6, 5pm CET) with @agatawitkowska.bsky.social and @abdourachidthiam.bsky.social !

This would be an amazing postdoc opportunity!
Attention membrane traffickers! I'm recruiting a post-doc to my lab in Dundee. We're dissecting the functions of intrinsically disordered domains of COPII coat proteins. We think they control timing of coat assembly and morphology of carriers.

The way you perceive this optical illusion may tie back to the visual environment that surrounds you, a recent preprint suggests. scim.ag/4kTxbmd
