Gave a talk at my parents’ retirement community to describe how science is done, and what is at stake. There was a ton of interest, and anyone can do this. Get the word out about how science affects everyone. I’m happy to share slides with anyone who asks- just get in touch! youtu.be/BY_SFgi-Cig

It was so fun to celebrate a great year with the Marshall lab yesterday! We missed a few people, but we laughed, feasted, made onesies for Brandon’s sweet newborn, and discovered that our new lab member Cora is younger than Harry, my dog. It is a joy to work with these wonderful people!

So excited for @alexchesler.bsky.social and the future of pain therapeutics! I’m also sad for the huge loss for NIH and our academic field.
Some news. Exciting new challenges and opportunities ahead.

When overwhelmed by scope of tragedy, specifics can be important. Here is just one story. Thinking of all those affected by this weekend's tragedies at Brown and in Sydney.
Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, a freshman at Brown, had a condition as a child that required brain surgery. The experience created an unshakable ambition to become a brain surgeon, his sister said.

He died after being shot on campus on Saturday.

This group is so incredible- amazing scientists and friends. An outstanding lineup of talks. What a legacy!
We had the most amazing 25 year lab anniversary today. Blown away by the science from my alumni and very proud of the current members. The community they have built is remarkable and it felt like a family reunion. The tacos, drinks, cake, and jazz were pretty great too.

9 CDC Directors going back to 1977 speak out. What RFK Jr has done to our nation’s public health system "should alarm every American."
