undercovered as part of Our Current Nightmare that 60% of Republican SCOTUS appointments in the 21st century got there by stealing the 2000 election for Bush.
2/2

To say this for the 50th time, for anyone who doesn't know:

Three young conservative lawyers were part of the GOP "Florida recount" team that led to GWB becoming president, via Bush-v-Gore.

They were: John Roberts. Brett Kavanaugh. Amy Coney Barrett.

Small world.

Democrats need to lay the groundwork for reform by attacking the villains on the Supreme Court - loudly, angrily, personally, relentlessly. And they should start now.

Democrats Need to Treat the Supreme Court Like the Villain It Is
The Court is out of control, and we'll never see reform unless we build the case for it. Starting now.

birthright citizenship is very plainly the law of the land no matter what the supreme court says. the supreme court of the united states as currently constituted is an illegitimate institution. democrats need to start treating it that way

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes.

If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.
Hegseth order on first Caribbean boat strike, officials say: Kill them all
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order to kill all crew members in the Sept. 2 strike on a suspected drug boat. Navy SEALs fired a second missile.

The New York Times, where the popular mayor-elect of their city is a fringe figure, but the QAnon podcaster who asked him a racist question comes out as a "winner"

This newspaper hates its readers as much as Republicans hate their voters. And if you're still supporting either, you deserve it.
What a strange framing and characterization. How does one describe his blatantly dishonest, racist question about taxes as “press[ing] the Mayor-elect on his policy proposals”? In what way does this lying troll emerge as a “winner“?

Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

When a serial cooperator is faced with a serial defector in the prisoner's dilemma, one needs to defect a few times to see if the other side can be brought back around to cooperating at least sometimes. There are dangers to mutual serial defection, but otherwise you just always lose.
one thing i think is true is that republicans assumed that democrats would not respond in kind and that the forceful pushback spooked them (a lesson to learn here, perhaps)
Trump's corrupt scheme to rig 2026 is suddenly falling apart:

*Court strikes down Texas GOP gerrymander
*Indiana GOP lacks votes to redraw map
*Big Dem win in Virginia could give Ds more seats

In fact, the Patriot Act was the tippytop of this particular slippery slope, but it'd be too much to hope for Bill Kristol to acknowledge that. The Never Trumpers' whole grift is pretending that the GOP's problems all started with Trump.
“Courts serve as a vital check on executive power. The Supreme Court may soon consider whether that check should be removed each time the president utters the magic words “military” and “foreign policy.” It should reject this authoritarian power grab.”

“Military” and “Foreign Policy” Are Not Magic Words to Give the Government Unrestrained Power
And the courts should make that clear.

Truth
pretty clear a big part of the mainstream media-led backlash to #metoo is the number of people in media who take advantage of and abuse others.

they made it seem like it's about fairness, but they just didn't want to face any real consequences for their behavior.
So if Olivia is 32 now, broke up with Lizza last year, was together with him for a decade, and then was living with you for 4+ years before that, how old was she when you moved her out of her (presumably parents’) house in the suburbs to live with you?

I'm wary of anybody who's got the states' respective ages of consent memorized.
In many states people can get married at age sixteen, legally. In Hawaii and Kansas, fifteen.
