Nice to see things ramping up on this app. Mildly curious how this place picks up the pieces of what's left on the "other site."

As for me, I tend to post about cinema, horror games, apocalyptic ephemera etc. etc.

Also my cats, and occasional snapshots of life in the PNW.

Glad you're here.

You can oversee the bloody dismemberment of a Washington Post journalist with a bone saw, and the president of the United States will smile, shake your hand and threaten to pull the license of a news outlet whose reporter asks you a question about it.

Trump defends Saudi crown prince over Khashoggi killing
The de facto Saudi ruler was branded a pariah in 2018 after the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. Now, U.S.-Saudi relations are approaching a high point.

This is one of my favourite space photos.

It's Pluto, backlit by the Sun, imaged by NASA's New Horizons spacecraft in 2015.

Look carefully and you can see the planet's irregular topography and the layering in its atmosphere.

The average impact velocity at the Moon is somewhere between 16 and 20 kilometres per second.

This is the result of even a modest space rock hitting the lunar surface at that speed.

1. The Trump administration has just quietly updated the State Department website to indicate that it may invalidate transgender people's passports.

This comes a week after a SCOTUS ruling blocking lower rulings allowing trans people to update them.

This, but for other creative work, like writing and editing.
Trying to measure coding productivity is, and always will be, a fool's errand.

Why? Because I can go for a walk then take a shower and have an idea, then write a single line of code that fixes everything I was working on.

Immense productivity, but by most metrics I didn't do anything at all.

apropos of nothing, Michael Shannon in Death by Lightning is stellar.

Sort of a bizarre mashup mini-series on an obscure moment in US history, but it’s very watchable.

(disclaimer — it’s based on a very famous book, which I gather is more or less poorly reflected in this Netflix show)
