I've spent so much time in NYC and EU that the size of your standard American house freaks me out.

Seriously, what is considered a small home in the US is GIANT.

We could help the housing crisis by not acting like every family needs 2000+ square feet and a garage and a yard.

I just finally got around to updating my Bluesky handle to my Neocities page (now that they actually reserve your old handle so it can't be stolen).

What this does for me, I don't know. But Neocities is awesome so I gotta represent.

This guy thinks optimization middleware is the same thing as generative AI. He wants to force this product down our throats and he has no idea what it even *is*.

CEOs ladies and gentlemen.

I wanted to make an easier to understand version of my game, so I made a simple mode that just changes instant speed cards to normal speed ones.

This is basically a shout out to the Magic the Gathering set I learned to play on that did the same, Starter 1999.

It wasn't popular, but good to learn.

The annoying thing about the "oh we left a placeholder" generative AI slop excuse is that that is EXACTLY NOT how you should be using placeholders. Anything "not obviously terrible with a panicked hurried half-awake glance" is getting shipped.
In gamedev, if you're using a placeholder asset, best practices involve marking it as placeholder so garishly and offensively clearly PLACEHOLDER that you can't possibly miss it. Also flagging that asset in the dev process so it can be identified quickly before the final build.

I see that the game awards have once again nominated some non indie games as indie game of the year.

Sigh.

Clair Obscur is not an indie game. Hades II and Silksong at this point have too much money for me to consider them indie, though at least you can make a weak argument. Expedition 33 just no.

Since video game companies keep lying about usage of gen AI, I think this should be brought up again.

I use it on my store page, and it's easy to see at a quick glance on the right hand sidebar.

Every time you use AI slop in your game, even as a placeholder, even if it's supposed to be temporary, you're helping to destroy the video game industry little by little.

It sucks that players are having to scour every asset and line of dialogue

Honestly LLMs are a great tool if you're someone who thinks beauty, art, human connection, and the planet are all a waste of time.

If you think that all meaningful parts of life should be replaced for some theoretical future gain in efficiency, then boy do we have a tool for you.

Trying to measure coding productivity is, and always will be, a fool's errand.

Why? Because I can go for a walk then take a shower and have an idea, then write a single line of code that fixes everything I was working on.

Immense productivity, but by most metrics I didn't do anything at all.

Ah Steam has rejected me for another fest as it continues to not allow me in anything that it isn't specifically tagged as

This time my medieval game with a feudal peasant system, with a villain based on a specific real life person during medieval times was found as not a fit for the medieval fest

It is always amazing how despite being on camera for a living, youtubers and streamers generally cannot act at all.
just saw the worst gaming ad ive ever seen

This little* guy is a little bit happy I'm back. He's been basically connected to me since I got home.

Very helpful with all my indie game dev. He's helping me train by taking up one of my arms.

*Big for a cat actually

I don't understand people who play all the games in their steam library when they get them. They treat it like a restaurant where you order and then eat a thing.

I treat it like food at an all inclusive resort where I just aimlessly look around until I go oooo KOTOR 2, yes please.

I leave for a week and a half: Steam Deck - completely dead.

I don't touch it for 4 months: Analogue Pocket - here is exactly where you left off! I still have 80% battery!

Remember everyone, when you look back at your life you'll remember the cool shit you tried, even if you failed, way more than you remember the boring safe choices.

For indie game devs specifically, maybe your game fails, but you'll remember making a game more than working a safe desk job.

I really don't understand why some apps need to update so often.

Some, I get it. But some are just a glorified web page.

Why do you need to update the files on my device so often when you're basically just a website?

Random person who plays indie games, you are the most important cog in an indie game's success.

Most gamers don't know or care that indies exist.... unless a friend tells them.

Our games succeed because you tell other people you liked our game. Word of mouth is the best marketing there is.

I love people who play indie games, but also I'm always a little disappointed when I see people saying "I love indie games, my favorites are: *insert the biggest and most popular indie games of the last 5 years and nothing else*"

I wish more people would search for gems, not just play the biggies.

Finally finished the danger level calculations. So now the music will speed up as you're in more danger, and I can finally calculate the value of holding something back to block the next turn.

Which means simple ai is almost done, as long as I don't have any more great ideas.

Valve new hardware looks cool but they need to allow families to exist in different countries.

Still can't share games with my spouse because we live in different countries *even on a shared computer*
November 13, 2025 at 8:15 AM
Indie game devs, it's okay if you only work on your game a few hours in a day. Most people are only actually productive for a few hours each day. Long hours are for show, not for getting anything done*.

* We all have the occasional locked in marathon day though
