There is no circle of hell hot enough for these soulless ghouls. If someone pitched this kind of evil for a television show, the producers would tell them to tone it down a notch.

Your routine reminder that Ron Johnson is one of the most soulless people ever to walk this earth and one of the worst people to represent my home state outside of Joe McCarthy.
Ron Johnson to Keith Ellison: "Two people are dead because you encouraged them to put themselves into harm's way! And now you are exploiting those two martyrs. You ought to feel damn guilty about it. Yeah, sit there and smirk. Smirk. It's sick! It's despicable. You disgust me."

Lol, I've been carded here maybe twice in the last decade and the last time the guy glanced at it for like half a second probably because he was on camera and could get in trouble for not at least asking for it. At zero points did anyone seriously look at it to confirm my identity.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Jeff. We're all with you.

So far, every lawyer I have met that supports this administration (especially at this point) are ones I had zero professional respect for before all this purely based on their shitty practice or conduct.

I know one who quit (law school friend), and he explicitly told me that he was afraid of getting disbarred if he stayed because it's so bad. Worked there since we graduated, would have been a lifer.

My wife asked me why I hadn't taken out the trash yet and when I told her the Dow is above $50,000 she did NOT consider that an acceptable answer, so can someone explain what I did wrong here?

It seemed to work so well for the Attorney General.

I've seen some pretty ludicrous shit in the courtroom in my lifetime, but this is some of the most appalling behavior from an attorney I have ever witnessed. It is stunning coming from the sitting attorney general of the United States.

I gotta say, "the Pentagon uses a high powered laser to shoot down a party balloon" feels like enough symbolism for awhile. all full up thanks

Watching this congressional hearing this morning and this is one of the most embarassing displays from any attorney I have ever seen (and I've seen some pretty bad ones). This is the Attorney General of the United States. It's just appalling and incredible to watch.

This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

But as you say, they are not brave people. And I don't think they have sufficient control of the machinery that they could pull this off.
February 10, 2026 at 2:35 AM
NOW, I *do* want to stress that's all a matter of traditions and mechanics that absolutely could be overwritten. But if we're at that point, things are far enough off the rails we're just talking sparkling dictatorship, since it's only a coup if it's from the Coup d' Etat region of France.

They don't actually even get to keep their spaces from session to session, interestingly.
February 10, 2026 at 2:35 AM
This is one of the rare times when I think this is less likely than it seems.

One of the things we actually learned from the Kevin McCarthy multiple day saga is that they don't actually even have access to offices and stuff until the House gets in session. Badges don't work.

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them
What a moment.

As much as anything, these guys are lazy. They could whip out guns, but it's not going to get rid of the blockade, and they'd have to move all that themselves. Because these guys are Meal Team Six rather than the elite, they just give up and look for easier prey.

I bought it because it said "John Scalzi" on the cover, but the cat was a definite added bonus.
