And the Pope is on the edge of shutting them down.

And that's at the more upbeat dedicated church across town that we like more, not the Cathedral which is technically the parish we're supposed to attend (two blocks away from our house) full of the folks who are pretty much just Catholic automatons.

My wife is devout Catholic (I'm Methodist), and the number of people who believe "as long as you're in your seat before the Gloria you're on time" and sneak out the back as soon as they've gotten their weekly Jesus intake is... not small.

And I must say, as an autistic person who has experienced this MANY times throughout my life... being told you "should have known" something you literally didn't know is one of the most exasperating and defeating things to hear.

The piece had been up for more than a year at that point and had never been a problem.

After they succeeded, they started to just mass report everything I wrote. Things that weren't at all controversial suddenly started getting hidden for BNBR violations and I was threatened with a permaban.

The commenter took the piece over to 4Chan and Reddit and got a bunch of his buddies to mass report *my* piece. 8 separate times over 6 weeks, it was determined by the mods NOT to violate BNBR, until suddenly they changed their minds and hid the answer and gave me a temporary suspension.

One of the final straws was when I reported a Christofascist who did NOT like a piece I wrote explaining how Jerry Falwell came to be, and had commented threatening to come to my house and burn it down with me inside. Mods: "thank you for your report, we determined this does not violate BNBR."

I used to have a moderately decent following on Quora back before that turned into a hellsite. Part of why I quit was over its Be Nice, Be Respectful policy. I had no inherent problem with the policy itself, but by the time I just gave up, enforcement was utterly arbitrary.

When I was in law school, I helped our church build a wood fired bread oven. There's something really community-building about standing around handing out fresh baked bread to anyone who wants it, and it's a lot of fun firing it up and making stuff for it.

I keep saying: if your vote didn't matter, they wouldn't be trying so hard to take it away.

TBF if you're my age, we were told to by default question literally everything on the internet, so glad to see our children are getting it.
