How much will it cost the UK to reach an 87% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040?

In a new letter, @thecccuk.bsky.social confirms about £4bn a year (£26bn a year of costs minus £22bn a year of savings).

📢Big surge in new-energy heavy truck sales in China in December to meet policy targets and rushing to get ahead of policy changes.
In December, only 31.2% of heavy trucks were diesel, and for the full year 46.4%.

Trump’s takes on windmills are of course lies. The last gasp of a backward-looking petro-state.

“The more windmills a country has, the more money that country loses [..] I haven’t been able to find any wind farms in China [..] They sell them to stupid people but they don’t use them themselves”

Kernuitstap → meer gas → meer CO₂ → meer afhankelijkheid?
Nee.

🧵 It's hard to believe but 10 years ago today the Paris Agreement was signed at COP21🌎

Where are we at in 2025? Projected warming this century has dropped from ~4°C in 2015 to 2.6°C today, if current emissions reduction pledges are implemented. But a lot more work is needed!

I’m really surprised this isn’t bigger news. Just under 10 million people live in Tehran. Where can they go? Where else in Iran will have enough water? This will undoubtedly strain the country’s and the region’s politics, finances and governance capacity.

Electricity generation from coal in India has dropped in the first 10 months of 2025, with renewables covering for all the growth in electricity use.

Noting, growth in electricity use is rather low...

💸 With a guaranteed minimum price of 85-90€/MWh required for commercial operation, they are also among the most expensive 🧵
