The Labour Party needs to drag itself out of the 1990s-2000s and recognize that competent management of the status quo is not what is needed. It will not win votes and it will not solve problems. Bold reform is what we need. Fundamental changes must be made.

absolutely, Winston rolls Luxon because he's a moron, and then falls under the threshold in the resulting snap election due to his overconfidence. Who knows if it works out that way though.

"this was the day that Christopher Luxon finally became Prime Minister"-ass take

No one likes him, he's useless and shitty, give him up as a bad job you dumb fucks #nzpol
Pretty farcical take to frame the tariffs as Luxon’s “first real crisis” when the wealth distribution crisis, the overwhelm and underfunding of support services including health, the consistent reporting on widening inequity and the cost of power/food are all waiting to be glanced at in passing 🤨🤔

Am oft befuddled by people who claim their actions/interests are "not political". As Grace Paley once said, politics is how we want people to be treated.
Imho, everything is political. Imho, to think otherwise is a position of privilege, if not wilful ignorance.

"Prison abolitionism" is very stupid rhetoric. You don't get to call yourself that and then act surprised when people think you want to abolish prisons. Don't strawman your own ideology.

First episode of Locked Out with Craig Renney drops tomorrow morning on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube with a conversation around electricity prices.

Dis you know that there was a period last year when every dollar you paid for electricity had 92c profit for the provider?

Simeon gaslights NZ doctors, blaming them for the strike and telling doctors they didn't need to do this. Meanwhile National & ACT seek to silence doctors at the same time; offering a paycut while giving themselves 11% pay bumps for ruining the country and our public healthcare system

They tried this in Australia and it led to a wave of homelessness because people couldn't pay rent or utilities.
Landlords also complained about missing out on rent money.
The policy was scrapped.
It won't work here either and everyone knows it.
It will only create hardship.

Old Article (August 2024)

"Half of the benefit will go onto a payment card that can only be used for a limited range of essential products and services"

Given that rent usually made up well over 50% of my benefit in 2009, I can't see how this works for those in the same situation.
Watch: Government further increases sanctions for beneficiaries
The government will double how long breaches count against beneficiaries, as the traffic light system for sanctions comes into effect today.

If the Trump regime can disappear a NZ citizen into a no-backsies hellhole jail in a third country for visiting the USA legally for business or to visit family or see the sites, the USA is no longer safe to visit and the NZ govt should issue a travel warning saying so

So should every other country

It is good to see defense spending going up. Some insist that this is unnecessary. Some insist that there is no good reason for anyone to attack us. The sad reality is that the world is full of irrational governments that don't need a good reason to wage war.
