How odd.

"Resale condos in an earlier phase of this same development, units just under 600 sq ft, have recently sold for around $370K (roughly $650 per square foot).

Yet in early November, five units in the newly completed phase sold for over $1,000 per square foot."

So it took loss of life including children and devastating a family that made the news across Canada. But I guess we will see if this gets enforced in any meaningful way. Hopefully Brampton don't kowtow to slumlords that regularly protest at city hall again.

If you have renters in your family, consider giving potentially life saving gifts this holiday.

Battery smoke alarms
CO detectors
Fire ladders
ABC fire extinguisher.
Fire blankets.

Also with your own household, make a fire escape plan, and as the bluesky post shared says, TEST your smoke alarms!

Out of town RE owners, and slum landlords of Vancouver properties welcome that property tax savings. They don't need or enjoy the city's parks and services that will be hit w cuts to pay for this.
Adjusting the property tax increase for inflation, we can see that the zero-percent budget represents a 2% tax cut in real terms, the largest in the last 16 years.

Normal home owners not sweating a property tax increase, esp if it means their city services are kept up.

Rich absent owners, Vancouver RE slumlords among those who DGAF if the Vancouver library branches cuts programs, aquatic centre continues to crumble, or baby change tables vanish to save them $
Look who's gonna pay for Ken Sim's tax break for the super-rich:

Come on,
Pest control is really basic building maintenance. Monitoring/preventative program should always be in place in multifamily housing
All it can take is one unit not saying anything & DIY'ing "fixes" to infest others. Ppl can feel ashamed to bring up pests thinking they'll be seen as 'dirty"

Or more concerned w competition of PBR & social housing units ppl would want to live in further dropping demand/prices the for-purchase speculative garbage could attain (gleefully gobbled by investors for yrs to flip or rent leading to bubble peak) vs actual concern for Cdns ability to buy a home.🤷‍♀️

Bet some of these kids can pay for a more lavish life than I ever had working. Crime pays, especially w the disparity in quality of life vs older gens experienced and still increasing housing/food insecurity it will simply get easier and easier to recruit new kids into crime

Yup. Just ask ppl in small BC communities w/o the provincial principal residence requirement how bad their local rental situation is.

RE investors buy our housing stock to ST rent, not LT. Needed workers either have to BUY a home most can't afford, or be willing to live in an RV/run down unit
This could threaten thousands of long-term renters and encourage bad faith evictions before next year’s FIFA World Cup.

Rents are down 10% partly because of these STR rules, but the BC Conservatives are trying to weaken and support repealing them entirely.

We won't let them.

Now people are dead. This was preventable

If highly skilled immigrants that work in healthcare services are the ones leaving in the largest volume, shouldn't that necessitate further recalculating elsewhere? You'd think we can't continually add people who will need services like healthcare without the healthcare workers to support everyone

#BC #RentalCrisis People working locally living in RV's around where I live too, like here I wonder, will all I have to do is check airbnb?

Will I see hundreds of units for short term vacation rental? Not all of them would have been LT rentals before, but a decent portion surely would have.
