"Ravenswood" is a Dungeons & Dragons sounding name for a neighborhood.

Chicago based individual, but still New Orleans related. Georgia raised via UGA & SSI.

First, there’s the rage: a dumbfounded rage in which you find yourself repeatedly asking, “How can this be happening?” to nobody in particular. It was there in 2005; it’s here now.

Then there is the betrayal. www.nola.com/opinions/gue...

An important reminder that plenty of conservatives know how to run for office as Democrats when the district boundaries call for it.

- Marie Gluesenkamp Perez

this thread about Minneapolis fuckin rocks, and I want to shoutout the Chicago patrollers who have been guarding schools throughout the frigid temperatures, too

“decentralized in a way they can’t handle,” as Margaret says
Today I talked with a 76 year old who'd been standing in the cold for hours guarding her neighbors. I was getting kind of chilly, even in the new winter gear i bought for this trip (and I live in the goddam mountains myself).

She didn't even have a hat on.

Big win for the Gullah Geechee community on Sapelo Island in Georgia.
Results: McIntosh County zoning vote - The Current
Voters repeal Sapelo rezoning by 5 to 1 margin in special election the county tried to thwart in court.

At some point we're going to need the streaming services to start doing "get ready for the coming weather emergency" alerts because not enough people I know watch enough news to be aware of this storm.
Call your people. I've been on the phone with family & friends down South & so far only about half of them have any idea this is coming.
This would knock out power for tens of millions of people, for week*s*.

This is not a joke or exaggeration.

If you've got people in the path of this ice storm remind them to fill a tub up with water & keep a bucket by the toilet. If their home loses water pressure, they can use the water & bucket to activate the flush.

You know what law was intended to prevent state legal regimes from racially profiling families and abducting children who might be caught without a parent? The Civil Rights Act of 1866. You know, the law to dismantle the Black Codes.
Just saw on KARE 11 that this boy was sent to a detainment facility in Texas and that his family didn't know his whereabouts for almost 24 hours.
This picture making the rounds on reddit, Columbia Heights. I'm not OK.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

New — I wrote about ChongLy Scott Thao, the elderly Hmong American wrongly arrested and forced out of his home by ICE in his underwear during the punishing Minnesota winter, what witnesses saw, and DHS's racist claim that he fit the description of another Asian man they were looking for.

My story:
Behind the disturbing image of ICE snatching a half-naked, elderly Hmong American from his home
DHS has claimed without evidence that they were looking for someone else when they took ChongLy Scott Thao.

Indiana was the worst team in college football for 150 years and then they let you start paying players and they immediately became No. 1 and the only conclusion one can draw is they were the only ones who didn’t realize you could pay players under the table for the first 150 years.
