I think some of the episode 1 toys were good.
It’s wild, people pretending they loved Jar Jar Binks
One of the funniest things about getting older is watching people my age succumb to nostalgia about these terrible films.

I think I would make a good Senate Democrat because, like them, I don’t know what they are doing or why.

aAbolishing the senate might solve the Supreme Court. Less consequential if Congress can follow a ruling by immediately passing new legislation that achieves the same goal while technically circumventing ruling. Less prone to over reach and corruption if reform and discipline are just one vote away.
Abolishing the Senate and SCOTUS should be talked about much more.
It's not normal to have a "senate" in a democracy. It's explicitly anti-democratic.

I mean, I don't want to attribute any kind of strategic thinking to democrats or whatever, but if the move is to signal "we're doing our part" and have House Republicans be really clearly the ones that kill it. That could work. In like, kind of a way.
Should be pretty clear that without House commitment on a vote on ACA extensions, it is purely symbolic as part of the Senate deal
Q: Will you assure House Democrats they'll get a vote on ACA subsidies by a date certain?
MIKE JOHNSON: Ah -- no. I'm not promising anyone anything.

Performative decency is actually *so* important for this reason.
It tricks the 10% of ghouls into thinking that there are only 1% of ghouls.
And it makes the 30% of people that don't care one way or another follow the mostly decent crowd

ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up

(A woman on a dating app once asked me for a cool animal fact, and I gave her one about killer whales.** She told me I should call them “orcas” to be respectful. I said I was saying “killer whale” with the utmost respect, and that maybe we could each call them what we wanted to. She unmatched me.)
