On this Armistice Day, I think of the hundreds (maybe thousands) of British regiments’ soldiers my great-great-aunt Mame treated as a nurse in France, and the badges and buttons they left with her.

Today in nonprofit foundation research -- when you find an interesting foundation, look at its trustee list, and immediately find the lead trustee is accused of using Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking network. (Unsurprisingly, that foundation seems to be listed as "permanently closed.")

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry

I just spent halftime break in the Portland Thorns playoff match calling my Senators @merkley.senate.gov and @wyden.senate.gov to ask them to hold the line. People desperately need these health care rates reduced, and there’s no way we should trust a fingers-crossed “promise” for a later vote.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Here are the two plaques that were removed. I am so ashamed of our racist current administration.

Here in Atlanta yesterday, more than 2,000 people waited in their cars—one woman for 14 hours—for a box of food. The giveaway ended early; there wasn't enough to go around.
Multiply this scene by countless others across the country, and you get a sense of how crushing the desperation is right now.
