In 18 years, the best day (by far) we've had for new subscriptions was triggered by a reader who posted two sentences and a link on Reddit. Never underestimate word-of-mouth. Thank you to everyone that has done that for us over the years. It all adds up and continues to make a difference.

Interesting study suggests that retinal changes might be a sign of Alzheimer's, which could lead to earlier diagnoses.

Fun fact: if you're buying from a creator on etsy, you can reduce their etsy selling fees from 6.5% to 2.5% by ordering via 'shopname.etsy.com' instead of 'etsy.com/shopname' or searching from the main site. It costs you the same but the creator makes more

They're also one of the reasons our tax code continues to be a mess and hard for regular people to navigate! They want you to be unable to do it easily yourself.
Now that it is tax season I remind everyone:

DO NOT USE TURBOTAX.

THEY WERE REMOVED FROM THE IRS FREE FILE SYSTEM AND ARE NOT BOUND TO THOSE RULES.

Instead, if you make $84k or less a year, use any of the IRS Free File options found here: www.irs.gov/filing/irs-f...
IRS Free File: Do your taxes for free | Internal Revenue Service
Prepare and file your federal income tax return online for free. File at an IRS partner site with the IRS Free File Program or use Free File Fillable Forms. It's safe, easy and no cost to you.

Seen a few folks astonished by my lack of support for ChatGPT and similar. Because AI, right?

Yeah, no. What we have right now is glorified autocorrect. Glorified autocorrect that takes the energy of an entire city to do what it does, plus half of Lake Erie to cool down while it's doing it.

Oh, I have this book in my personal library, and also was fortunate to know Ford, all too briefly. He was a treasure.
I have a fondness for the author John M. Ford who, in addition to a lot of of eccentric sci-fi and poetry in the 70s, wrote two 1980s Star Trek novels...one of which was an honest-to-God musical comedy called "How Much for Just the Planet?"

Worth noting, as far as I can tell, this only applies to personal accounts located in the US. If you're in any country that has to comply with GDPR, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

turns out regulations are a good thing actually

I very highly recommend logging into your account and going to Settings > Data & Privacy > Personalized Shopping.

If you're reading this, turn that off RIGHT NOW before you forget.

Let's make this clear: My mom's test results for nearly two years indicated possible cancer, but neither she nor her doctors knew this because of a private agreement between her insurer and pathologists to occasionally lie about abnormal or ambiguous test results and falsely report them as normal.

Seems like people wanna talk about all the locked-up stuff at chain pharmacies and big box stores today. Here’s a gift link to a feature I published a few months ago about why retailers started putting so much stuff behind plexiglass and how badly it’s backfired. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...
Retailers Locked Up Their Products—and Broke Shopping in America
CVS, Target and other chains have barricaded everything from toiletries to cleaning supplies. It’s backfired in almost every way.
