Keep wanting to post something about Catherine O'Hara, but everything seems too small. She was so great, and she gave me incredible joy whenever she was in a film or on television. Endlessly funny from the beginning to the end and for many generations. I loved watching her *so much*.

Suzannah Herbert's documentary Natchez, opening today at Film Forum (needs to be shown nationally), turns observation into engagement—with history, its witnesses, its falsifiers, and government's crucial (and endangered) role in its preservation and transmission:

Challenging Official Histories in “Natchez” and “Mr. Nobody Against Putin”

Since it's opening this weekend, SEND HELP is a lot of fun and should be seen with an opening weekend crowd. The first real Sam Raimi film since DRAG ME TO HELL. And much like GAME NIGHT, many of us will push for a Rachel McAdams Oscar nomination that probably won't happen.

As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today.

ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.

Read this. It will help your day. Solidarity.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

really can't help feeling like major difference between the awards season reception of The Brutalist and The Testament of Ann Lee is that the former was about a man and the latter is about a woman

New — I wrote about ChongLy Scott Thao, the elderly Hmong American wrongly arrested and forced out of his home by ICE in his underwear during the punishing Minnesota winter, what witnesses saw, and DHS's racist claim that he fit the description of another Asian man they were looking for.

My story:
Behind the disturbing image of ICE snatching a half-naked, elderly Hmong American from his home
DHS has claimed without evidence that they were looking for someone else when they took ChongLy Scott Thao.

I wrote and narrated the video essay to be included in this release, a history of Johnnie To's romances.
UK/US: Left at the altar and lost after a drunken bender, Michael is nursed back to health by grieving widow Sue in ROMANCING IN THIN AIR.

Although best known for action films, Johnnie To crafts a powerful meditation on grief and catharsis in this moving romantic melodrama.
