I've seen some discourse about how it seems like everyone in the elite circles knew about Epstein. I'm reminded of the piece of information about the Tuskegee Syphillis Study that I end classes with: Congress had hearings about the study and re-confirmed funding Every. Year. For. Forty. Years.

This is bleak: Jes Staley, currently CEO of Barclays, reassuring Epstein that popular revolt against financial elites is unlikely because capitalism and pop culture have defanged social movements, leaving people more invested in consumption than justice.

A GOOD THING!!! Look!!
Just because good news is worth celebrating:

There is now a Prep medication that is an *every six month* injection.

HIV has, effectively, a vaccination.

I can't just be reposting calls to action and terrible news all day every day so:

I get to go do a small little proof-of-concept movie directing thing with @tonyadodds.bsky.social in a couple of weeks and I'm delighted. Delight, as a feeling, still exists!

What are you delighted about?

I'm spending a lot of time editing a documentary about the month I spent in the woods with 30 strangers via Outward Bound and it is the best escape I can imagine.

It will be too long and I don't care.

today's report:

our "adopt a rent" venmo campaign paid 43 families rents who were at risk of evictions, including several moms of 4+ children

this is the way to get rent paid fast. like. 1000x better than any other way.

No venmo in Canada, as far as I know, so I’m signal boosting this excellent adopt-a-rent system to keep vulnerable people housed
tomorrow i would really like to challenge a few folks with larger followings than me to adopt a rent and raise it in one day.

my little group chat and my followers have paid like 70 families rents in the past four days. i believe that some of y’all could help us keep one family housed.

When a former boss said "I think AI will save us", I experienced a real-life Hitchcock zoom. I had just pitched a story about kids using ChatGPT as a search engine in school (it had been shot down), I didn't have standing to challenge without losing my job, and the immediate vertigo was a lot.
While reporting this, I had something happen that's never happened. A comms rep for one of the co's disputed my reporting and said what I was telling them was untrue because it was not in Grok, xAI's chatbot.

I was looking directly at the files. And this person was using AI to challenge the truth.
Epstein had many known connections to Silicon Valley CEOs, but less known was how he made money from those relationships.

We did a deep dive into how he got dealflow in Silicon Valley, giving him shots to invest in Coinbase, Palantir, SpaceX and other companies.
