Shamima Begum was the beginning of something in so many ways, one of which was 'the last government's inability to just do its job properly (in this case by passing legislation that would have allowed it to prosecute her here at home) and instead going 'no option but to undermine all our rights'.
There should be literally no circumstances, ever, where citizenship is can be revoked. If you literally sign up to fight for an opposing army in a war, then we should prosecute you for treason not revoke citizenship
Hell, I'm not convinced we should revoke citizenship at all.

But certainly not for being a twat online.

I do think the Begum decision to strip her citizenship was a really worrying step.
My in-laws still talk about it as a sign that their citizenship could be taken away at any time.
Ask this question and its follow-up. Like Begum before him, Alaa el-Fattah is being used as a crowbar to shift reasonable people - even some progressives - into a space of thinking that full citizenship, if granted recently or dual, is retroactively conditional or attracts a lower class of rights.

This is accurate and true but also I feel like I need to point out that we used to get stories like this ALL THE TIME.

This was the backbone of detective fiction, tons of TV, most superheroes and pulp heroes, etc. This is what they took from us.
my favorite thing about the benoit blanc movies is that they aren't really about benoit blanc. he is not grappling with demons from his past. we are not getting flashbacks to the husband whose murder he never solved. he just shows up and does his job like mary poppins for homicides

Especially crazy when you consider the original UK series of One Piece was two 6 episode seasons and a Christmas Special.
‘One Piece’ Season 1 has officially ended after 26 years and 1,156 episodes.

The show will now enter a seasonal format starting on April 5th.

Appreciate the Duffer Brothers keeping things accurate to the 80s with Vecna saying the minds of children are the most malleable.

If Stranger things was set in modern times think Vecna would have kidnapped 12 Baby Boomers to find the most easily influenced group.

What's everyone's favourite Avatar quote?

Mine is:

Forget it Jake. It's Avatar.
What's everyone's favourite Avatar quote?

Mine is:

"I love the smell of Avatar in the morning."
What's everyone's favourite Avatar quote?

Mine's:

"Frankly my dear, I don't give an Avatar..."

Honestly is impressive how rapidly Musk destroyed his own reputation.
Late 2010s I know so many people who were inspired by his push for space travel and Tesla's were the classy car to have.

Now just a sad man trying to simultaneously ruin the world and make everyone like him.
Happy 14th anniversary to this youtube video

Got the toddler a Yoto and played him this version of Hairy Mclary.

Thought the narrator was hamming up his Scottish accent a bit.
Then found out he's from bloody Sussex!

A lot of people think this post is about Spider-man.

Its really about childhood and parenthood being separate universes and how much that hurts.
Seeing how much my daughter loves Spidey and his Amazing Pals got me thinking about how much I loved Spider-man as a kid but how I don’t really care anymore, and it occured to me that one day I might have to explain that in the universe I’m from, Gwen Stacey isn’t a hero, she died.

Got to say really finding this read along/actual-read of Babel look at things.
Won't spoil the thing that annoyed me in the last third of the story but definitely recognising a lot of the things that meant the book didn't click that well with me
Has anyone read the book Babel? I’m trying but every time I start to get into it it gets really didactic in a way that just rips me right back out of it

The Lord of The Rings movies were rated PG-13. By current rules that means that each film could contain one use of the word "Fuck". Which line are you altering to insert the most useful swear word?

'Your love of the Halfings' leaf has clearly fucked your mind.'

Experienced a new and uniquely unpleasant experience which is stepping on a full nappy left on the floor.

Like feeling your foot enveloped by a balloon which then pops and soaks your sock in urine.

Very funny way to end an excellent Christmas day

All I want for Christmas is Maurice Glasman to understand that just because progressive has negative connotations in the field of medicine, does not mean that progressive is now a bad word.

(Also, is he trying to argue here that progressives people don't have souls?)
