We should start by talking about older, successful professionals who have fallen into a sort-of high-status conspiracism, promoting distrust in institutions to drive crowdfunding ventures.

start down that road and you become incapable of normal human interaction

Back home after seeing family up in Carlisle and much as I love them all it's a lovely feeling being home, bit of music on, no need to make conversation or feel a bit awkward about making an excuse to go for a walk or whatever, I can just *relax*.

My distressingly earnest take on a lot of stuff is that the real divide in politics is by people who are ultimately driven by love and joy and those who are primarily driven by hate and anger. Each finds different objects, policies and directions, but the chasm is between rather than among each side

Anyone who's ever lived 'amongst rural people' knows there are plenty of people in those communities who also do not approve of hunting. Not the divide people urban or countryside they'd like to pretend it is.

If there's anything that could increase support for the King and the monarchy it's a bunch of racist scumbags demanding we get rid of the current Monarch and replace him with a racist piece of shit like Lowe. Confident support for this lunatic move is v small - I know the country I live in.
Could the idea of making Rupert Lowe the King instead be "mainstreamed", ask the online racist right!
December 26, 2025 at 11:36 AM
'The last thing we want from the Monarchy at Christmas is platitudes about coming together as a country, respecting our neighbours and overcoming division at home' said nobody except some mad racists on twitter.
This is straight up American culture war crap. And what's the boomer mythology about the Second World War code for?

If the populist right want to make the King their next target I'd invite them to go for it . They'd only be one winner with the wider public and it won't be the right.
Sad and predictable but also interesting and revealing to see the angry reaction from the populist right to the King's Speech. They're reading it as a call for tolerance of diversity, approval for multi-faith, multi-cultural UK, and supportive of Ukraine. Which I think it was & intentionally so. 1/3

Quick break from my champagne to point out our Zack here didn't actually deny any of the allegations Reed made in this story. That's because they are true.

When this stuff first came out a couple of years ago I remember some member of the pundit class saying ‘he had us all fooled’ and it was like, honestly, speak for yourself
If you had come to me twenty years ago and said “in 2025 Russell Brand will be a far-right pundit spreading antisemitic conspiracies and accused of multiple rapes” I would have said “seems entirely plausible, how about those future cars, are they cool?”

OMG IT'S A XMAS MIRACLE

Put down the sherry and read this bsky.app/profile/rich...
The most stressed out I've ever been about Christmas was when I was 16 and I got my first ever job, working at M&S in Dundrum. As soon as I started I kept hearing these myths about the Christmas Eve Waste Sale, where all the food that wasn't sold on the 24th was marked down 90%.

Agree with this. Though I do think over recent years there's a decline in the 'no politics over the table' rule across generations. I know I don't agree with some of my family and so we decide to talk about other stuff instead. Manners on both sides.
Why is this advice always aimed at children avoiding their parents, and never at older people belligerently and inevitably regurgitating Facebook opinions so offensive their own kids would rather skip Christmas dinner than endure them?
Yeah, no thanks.

Stop guilting people about being estranged from family members. It someone is they likely have personal reasons for being so.

Poor Keir really can't get catch a break 😢 though I don't think he'd be stingy with a gift!!?? As for Boris I think we all know he'd be trying to get his end away with your 20 year old niece....
🎄Got a spare seat at the Xmas Dinner table? Well if you're looking for a politician to invite (why wouldn't you be) Then Brits say:
Boris would be the most fun
Fancy an argument go for Farage
Kemi makes the best xmas dinner (no sandwiches)
Keir would bring the most stingy gift

As with the WFA climbdown, the government will get zero political credit for this ... but it will fuel bond market concerns about its ability to stick to any unpopular decisions. Basically lose, lose really - unless you're a farmer.

Labour really should have gone hard on Taxing Other People this year, clearly.
A focus group quote that stuck with me from a disappointed Lab voter was along lines:

"Why are they (Labour) picking on Pensioners (WFA), farmers (IHT), small businesses (NICS), these groups who can't fight back?"

Telling 2 of those 3 have been significantly watered down now

If this was a Labour candidate this would be - rightly - all over the bbc website but this is Reform and we all know they are a bit racist so it doesn't get a mention. Which is fucked up, really.
Good grief: a genuine, senior Reform candidate saying we should force Jews and Muslims to commit blasphamy to 'prove their sincerity to Christians'.

This is just straight up racism and the fact Reform can't disown him says everything.
