The network is hundreds of years old and you'll very likely to see harder to maintain canals close in a number of years time. It's sad because being by water- walking, running, nature watching is good for your mental and physical health. Really is a shame to let parts of it literally crumble away.

I'm a boater and see a) the heroic work CRT do and b) the sad effects of the lack of money to spend on the system. The govt is reducing the amount it contributes to the crt with the eventual aim of zero ££ which is the only real reason the charity was formed. The breach here is estimated to cost £5m
Canal and River Trust used to the British Waterways Board, a statutory body.

Made a charity in the "bonfire of the quangos".
“Julie Sharman…of the Canal & River Trust, a charitable organisation in charge of maintaining 3,200km of waterways across England and Wales…’People sometimes think canals are looked after by local authorities or by the government, and they’re not. They’re looked after by us, as a charity’”

This would be a strong critique, if it wasnt for the fact all of this is in Labour's manifesto.

You know what isnt? The sort of immigration reforms proposed in the white paper

Yeah, by all accounts McSweeny really didn't rate Blair (which is loony tunes thinking but hey ho he's gone at last)

Net zero in particular is an odd complaint - if anything Labour tried to *row back* on sone of the commitments which Ed obviously fought against!
February 11, 2026 at 8:25 AM
Labour talked about a reset on Europe, yes we talked about securing borders and Starmer won't be throwing the doors open and actually most progressive people accept there has to be rules. We did not stand on a Blairite manifesto which seems to be what Danny is thinking
February 11, 2026 at 8:22 AM
Danny seems to be under the misunderstanding the voters elected the tories again in 2024 - net zero, more rules for businesses, progressive values, help for the poorest, we even talked about the working class 😱 it was all there. We are unpopular because we haven't delivered quickly enough!
The party will be authentic but wrong

Yeah is it 500 vote majority? Surprised more isn't being made of that
February 10, 2026 at 10:35 PM
Can't see Starmer wanting him out of the cabinet causing trouble, but wouldn't be surprised if he resigns at some point
February 10, 2026 at 10:25 PM
I have feeling after yesterday's performance our Wes might self-combust before he gets the chance to stand. He's a man in a rush and the others eyeing up their chances can wait it out longer.

Exactly.

Has Dan Hodges said he's the one to watch yet? Should be the kiss of death if he has.

Never. Going. To. Happen.

To be found in the dark room of your local friendly gay sauna where anything goes, with the exception of kissing obvs. Kissing is gay

Personally I find it's good to take time out when that's creeping up on you. It's very easy to get overwhelmed by absolutely *everything*. Don't worry, if you took a day out everything will still be fucked when you come back you won't have missed anything lol

There's being brutal abd effective in politics and there's being nasty. A lof of the times she's the later.
February 10, 2026 at 7:47 PM
You think you're going mad? I find you very sensible and sane, usually
February 10, 2026 at 7:45 PM
Also, I'm on here a lot. But I'm multi tasking, working, on a walk, getting ready for a run, doing *other stuff*. So important not to let news and politics just take over your life. I get the impression *some* people have driven themselves quite mad by doing that.
February 10, 2026 at 7:37 PM
Nope. Phone-ins hate them, told you. No compromising on that lol
February 10, 2026 at 7:25 PM
This is *my* thing though if he was pro Starmer I still wouldn't be interested. Give me a considered view based on more than vibes or your own personal political beliefs and I might be interested.

Think I saw something a few years ago where think it was the nec and there were thousands there to see the Rest is Politics and I'm like omg get a fucking life!
February 10, 2026 at 7:18 PM
Yeah nothing against James but I don't care what he thinks. Also just bet 9/10 times you can probably guess what he'd say. Boooooring.
February 10, 2026 at 7:16 PM
My view is they need an editor. I've listened to the newsagents, for example, and I was left thinking you need to go back to a 5 min piece to camera, mate. You didn't need half an hour to say all that.
February 10, 2026 at 7:14 PM
If you don't like a particular journalist or a news programme- don't watch it. Personally, I find Chris Mason deeply unimpressive as a political editor so I tend to not pay much attention to him. Beth Rigby for different reasons- much too infotainment for my liking so tend to avoid. It's easy to do
