The thing about the "right to exist" attack is that it's not really a question and it's not about states existing. If it were, Palestinian statehood would be implied.
But it's about asserting Israel's "right to exist *as a Jewish state*" which is means its unique right to discriminatory policy.
“Israel exists. Palestine doesn’t. And so I always wonder why nobody asks me why Palestine doesn’t have a right to exist.” - Abdul el-Sayed, candidate for Senate in Michigan.

We all know that the current "crisis" at the BBC is because powerful people with strong opinions, chiefly around Israel and trans issues, simply cannot accept the representation of those who disagree with them or the presentation of evidence that contradicts them

One thing Billie Eilish and Finneas and Olivia Rodrigo and so on have going for them is that it’s a lot easier to enjoy a song when you know that it’s creator is at least a minimally good person. Can’t quite say the same for Taylor or, like, Rammstein. Ethical critique truly is underrated.

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:
Voters Ousted This Pennsylvania Sheriff After He Signed Up to Collaborate With ICE - Bolts
A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.
China’s CO2 emissions have been flat or falling for past 18 months, analysis finds
World’s biggest polluter on track to hit peak emissions target early but miss goal for cutting carbon intensity

We really need to stop pretending that AI is just a way to "free teachers" and "make school fun"...

AI is built on theft and exploitation
AI is speeding up climate change
AI is good at generating BS that looks meaningful
AI is convincing kids to talk to it rather than people

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

I'm an error theorist, so obviously I must complain about the moral atomism inherent to Thompson's defence of abortion and the callous disregard for men's feelings shown by later feminists. I am very smart.

Once you start thinking of AI as a war on humanity, on human thought, on human inquiry, on human labor, on nuance and critical thinking, it slots in pretty seamlessly with the right wing ideological project, oligarchical political projects, big tech's political projects, etc

this mentality always ignores that Republicans don't respond to current popular sentiments, they drowned their base with a fire hose of propaganda until they've been terrified or enraged into believing what serves the Republican political project
There's also a weird conventional wisdom forming that the Democratic agenda is toxically unpopular and that Republicans are delivering what voters want.

This is laughably false. Trump is the most unpopular president in modern history and his entire agenda is underwater.

The real issue here is that anyone who thinks Trump will stick to any deal is a moron. They're gonna get Ds to open up the government and then they're gonna give every nickel to ICE and the red states and laugh at us for re-opening the government. Federal government is done.

Here in Atlanta yesterday, more than 2,000 people waited in their cars—one woman for 14 hours—for a box of food. The giveaway ended early; there wasn't enough to go around.

Multiply this scene by countless others across the country, and you get a sense of how crushing the desperation is right now.

I found this piece sad too, but mostly because it is part of a years-long effort by progressives to understand what "really" animates Trump voters.

We already know! It is racism, misogyny and misinformation. I know that sounds condescending or whatever but it's simply what all evidence suggests.

People are clowning on Elon Musk for his bad reading comprehension. I don’t think that’s fair. He’s never read Tolkien; he probably understood the Grok summary of LotR perfectly well.

The real problem here is just the fascism.
