For #WIPWednesday, please have ~250 words from the nearly 10k(!!) ch3 of my collab with @petrichorca.bsky.social and @sonorawent.bsky.social. We had to do, like, a BUNCH of irl research for this, so.
(Texting) Edward Teach (Ed!!): also just remembered you said you were at the Japanese gardens Edward Teach (Ed!!): i’ve never been Edward Teach (Ed!!): is it cool? Stede grins again, staring at his phone while contemplating his response. A simple “yes” seems too little, while a longer answer would take him out of the moment in a way that feels intrinsically antithetical to the experience. On an impulse, he opens the camera app again and switches to the front-facing camera. He cycles through a few facial expressions before landing on a smile he hopes doesn’t make him look entirely crazy, making sure to capture as much of the zen garden in the background as he can muster, and sends that off to Ed with a brief answer. (Texting) Stede Bonnet: It’s absolutely lovely! “Who’s that for?” Alma asks, suddenly standing next to him. Stede gasps, startled. “‘Cause I know you’re not sending a selfie to Mom.” “And why is that?” he asks, lifting his eyebrows. Alma scoffs. “Mom’s seen enough of your face for one lifetime,” she teases. And it’s easier, somehow, to laugh about it now. A few years ago it would’ve come out bitter, a parroted complaint accidentally overheard and trotted out at just the wrong moment. “True,” he allows, then considers how much to share with his eldest. He lands on something true. “It’s… a new friend.” Alma raises her eyebrows in clear imitation of him. “Is it a boy friend?” she asks. Too smart for her own good, his kid.

Thread (read all the posts) and quite true. Just ASK animal-related groups that are local: "I'm struggling, do you know of any pet food banks/options around?" because they usually have contacts and might run one themselves.

Gentle reminder: I am seeing more "I cannot afford pet food" posts & if you might face this in the near future/now, I recommend checking your local area's subreddit and posting if anyone knows of local programs for pet food. Many areas have small under-the-radar charities that give out pet food.
