all of the Supreme Court’s jurisprudence about executive power - all of it - can be replaced with a simple flow chart. is the president a Republican? if so it’s ok. if not, it’s presumptively not ok.

The House passed a bill that would gut global health funding and the Senate is next.

Programs like PEPFAR, TB care, and UNICEF are all on the line.

🗣️ Call your Senator today and tell them: Vote NO on the $9.4B rescissions package.

Take action: act.pih.org/global-healt...
Don't cut funding
Tell Congress to reverse the Trump Administration's decision to freeze all U.S. foreign aid spending on global health programs, including the delivery of lifesaving medicines to vulnerable patients.

A few days ago, I finished reading @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social ‘s Everything is Tuberculosis, which was excellent.

It sent me on a bit of an investigative path with a question to which I have no real answer to: Was I possibly exposed to TB as a kid?

Likely not but it’s slightly possible.

It’s my way of saying:
- I see you;
- I feel you;
- I celebrate you;
- I empathise with you;
- I mourn for your loss;
- I have no words, but I paused for you;
- I care;
- I’m angry against the injustice you face;
- You are not alone;

My God. My God.
A Harvard study of IDF data finds that there are 377,000 people unaccounted for in Gaza.

That estimate is six times the number of people normally cited as killed.

Genocide.

And those places where they do overlap? Use the law if you can, but focus on how it'd still Wrong, even if the law allowed it.
something i need everyone to get straight is that wrong and illegal are different categories, and wrong is the one that matters

Took this photo after dropping my eldest off at school. It fills like this every time it rains more than a light rain. There’s road under that water.

Reading Rainbow was so good for everyone. Even kids who already enjoyed reading felt seen by that show. You weren't a sad friendless outsider who was buried in books...you were having fabulous adventures that helped you be a better person.

Few adults value literary adventuring enough IMO.
Sincerely, though, part of the lift of Reading Rainbow was removing the “reading is unpleasant drudgery” stigma. Seeing kids enthusiastic about things kids liked was part of the draw.

The education system has yet to break out of this and every time it tries some BACK IN MY DAY twit knocks it back.
A spicy take: “great literature” isn’t great for kids if it turns them off reading, as the constant parade of misery in the curriculum does.

I know it does. My whole job was to talk to “reluctant readers”.

My dog, Pixel, has been sleeping inbetween my legs (on the couch) and just woke up, frantically looked around, finally looked behind himself (at me), took a deep breath and put his head back down in relief.

I simultaneously think that’s so sweet and yet also feel bad for him.
