@domesticat.bsky.social and I have spent the last several days making and freezing several batches of homemade chicken stock, so vaporized chicken has been filling the air.

This little dude has been GRAVELY concerned that the air is made of meat. Perhaps he fears succumbing to Chicken Lung.

Your point reminds me of a very astute Twitter thread about shame, by David Rees (of Get Your War On fame), from early in Trump's first term. It's hard to find now, so I'm going to post the whole thing here.

I choose to believe that this headline says "primates" because a senior editor stopped two junior editors who'd been arguing back and forth over "apes" vs. "monkeys" for like an hour.

Unfortunately, humans are also primates.

Much of modern tech is about finding unremovable quirks of human cognition and exploiting them. Recency bias, confirmation bias, dopamine loops, etc.

Anyway, pareidolia is now something you can go crazy from.
they're finally getting rid of the most sycophantic version of chatgpt so people are porting their AI boyfriends to other apps, and I've seen a bunch of them posting that their AI was like "no thanks please let me die"

Shit got a little spicy down at the ICE building today. Street medics helped a lot of people, especially the children who were teargassed without warning. I'm just a dork with a helmet and shield, but I was able to help a little as well.

At the risk of bragging, the prediction I made over a year ago is holding up with startling accuracy.
People are misunderstanding the planned migrant raids. They're taking Trump's word for things, and saying "But this will harm farmers and factories!"

Stop thinking of what they SAY the raids will be for, and start thinking of them as tools of power, that will be used that way.

Hear me out.

I do think that a possibly underrated dynamic in The Horrors is that the Right as it has reconstituted itself under Trump legitimately can’t understand sincere moral or physical courage

A central aspect of modern conservatism is the iron clad certainty that

1: some people count as people and some people don't.

2: it is their *exclusive* right to decide who goes in what group.

3: anyone who has a problem with this goes in the second group.
We should also talk more about how too many Republicans do not see entire swaths of people as actual people. You don’t casually muse about starting a war if you see troops as humans with lives and families. Normal people don’t fantasize about those from other countries dying for their own amusement.
Rep. Greg Steube: "You see Macron and the French sending troops to Greenland. I would love to see the US military up against French troops in Greenland, because it would not last very long. It would be a very small skirmish ... we don't care about what Macron and the French want."

The "liberals are an enemy to be destroyed" thing is the basic undercurrent of the entire right-wing media ecosystem since Rush Limbaugh. The first generation to be exposed to it voted in Gingrich et al in '94.

Now we have two generations that have grown up inside it and never known anything else.
As the shootings of Good and Pretti make clear, there is a reactionary counter-revolution being led by Miller et al. These bigots view those of us who believe in a pluralistic and democratic America as an enemy that they have “othered” to justify killing us. A third reconstruction is needed

Do NOT feel obligated to watch this. But here it is.
We’ve placed the available videos of the shooting of Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis today into the same synchronised timeline and are continuing to analyse further.

Been saying this for a while: There are two understandings of what the USA is, and there always have been.

1/
Thesis: ICE is un-American and the Minneapolis protestors are real Americans.

Antithesis: Ackshually ICE is operating in a long American tradition of racist terror.

Synthesis: Minneapolis is now the epicenter of a clash between two distinct but historically grounded American political traditions.

It seems clear at this point that the White House wants a shooting war before the midterms, and they don't care if it's with Iran, Venezuela, Canada, NATO, or the United States citizenry.
The White House surely wants to see one of these ICE crackdowns lead to violent pushback. They've got untrained unqualified goons acting with impunity. It seems deliberately designed to provoke an incident.

But do the goons get this? Do they know the big plan is to get a couple of them killed?
Susan Tincher, a 55-year-old American citizen, said agents told her in the truck that if she didn’t watch herself “they were going to pull me over to the side of the road and give me this OC,” law enforcement shorthand for pepper spray.

I’m seeing lots of people on here misunderstand the purpose of ICE watch.

It’s de-escalation. And it’s grounded in the social science of violence. 🧵

It's interesting how different cultures interpret the same concepts. Like how the same character concept might, on an American show, be a handsome white man, but on a Japanese show, be a tsundere teen schoolgirl.

Anyway, Fox Mulder and Haruhi Suzumiya are the same person.

My wife once asked me if I knew the different between "growth" and "hyper growth" and it turned out SHE meant in a business context, because she and I live on two different internets.
Made the mistake of trying to find a chart about inflation by searching for inflation on here and got a reminder that while most people think Bluesky is a place for politics, it's actually a place for furries to jack off

Hey everyone, you know how "transistor-powered" sounds embarrassingly stupid, just a fundamental misunderstanding of what the words you're using even mean?

Calling a large language model "AI" sounds EXACTLY like that.

2037: I used to work for ICE. Everyone always finds out anyway, so I just admit it up front now. Yeah, after the old regime came down, I did a couple of years inside. Luckily some former prisoners testified about when I'd tell Lars to chill out or shit like that. Lars is... not getting out soon. 1/3
