As a househusband, I've gotten "But don't you miss working?" a couple times.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no.

But thank you for asking.
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

I think it's important to recognize they did this exactly to provoke deaths like this. That's why they deployed people here, so they can use it as a justification for escalation. The deaths of these guardsmen were the *goal* of these operations, and they will certainly try to use them.
precisely my thought. the president and his dumbass republican allies put these men and women into harm’s way for a political stunt and look what has happened
Whether this was random street crime or targeted political violence, I think it was bad for the president to unnecessarily put the National Guard in harm’s way like this. They simply don’t need to be there.

just stopping in here to note how many of my trans masc friends and I have had conversations about how much lonelier the world feels once everyone starts assuming you're a man at first glance, and how much worse it would be without our very genderfucky social circles as a break from it.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

"Show me on this blueprint where there's a single flaw in my airplane design!"

"Well, it didn't fly, and when we started the engine it caught fire and exploded."

"So you admit you can't find a flaw in the design!"

This article is so-so, but it's got one bit, screencapped below, that I think is the purest expression I've yet seen of Trump's appeal to his voters.

They love him solely because we hate him, because he has failed the same moral tests they have.

Go fund me: Feature remake of Twelve Angry Men, but it is the D.C. Sandwich Toss jury and instead of jurors at each other's throats they have the most unbridled fun that any 12 American adults locked in a room can have short of group sex.

$2M gets it to a streamer. $4M with above-the-line actors.

2 cups lentils, 8 cups water. Couple tablespoons of salt. That's your base.

What I usually do is take a pound of ground chorizo, brown that in a pan with a chopped onion, then it goes into the pot along with some frozen spinach. The chorizo does most of the seasoning for you. Cheap and nutritious.
IT IS TIME FOR BLUESKY RECIPE POSTING

do you have a cheap, healthy, low-cost recipe? post it here! or quote tweet this post. or dunk on me for something I don't care just post easy meals that people can make right now.

An interesting and informative thread on how women formed part of the basis of Western fandom, which immediately preceded science fiction fandom.
The accepted wisdom is that Hugo Gernsback invented sf fandom in the Science Fiction League & in the pages of AMAZING STORIES, and that (per Wikipedia) “a wide variety of Western modern organized fannish subcultures originated with science fiction fandom.”

Thread. The divide in America isn't by state, it's urban vs. rural; the way our government is shaped creates the illusion of state differences.
a tweet i saw that really opened my third eye said basically that there's no such thing as red states and blue states, there's just states where the big city/ies that everyone else hates are a big enough portion of the population to dominate politics and states where they aren't
I mean, this is the whole problem, isn't it? A party rooted in the liberal, cosmopolitan parts of the country can't win outside of them, but you also can't not have a party rooted in those regions because that's a huge and influential part of the country.

I am also (probably) alive because of the ACA, and I defend it on that basis.

"Obamacare was a sellout half-measure that doesn't do anything meaningful!"

"Okay, but I consider my existence meaningful."

To repeat it: the reason why Young Republicans are talking about loving Hitler and FedSoc judges are destroying the jurisprudence is because *they've never in their lives seen someone suffer for promoting those polices*. Not Newt, not Rush Limbaugh, not Scalia or Thomas, no one!
i mean it that we won't see a meaningful change in the GOP until folks like this spend the rest of their days in misery, and their kids reject them when they've reached the age. anything less and they'll think their gambits worth it!
