The extra panel from a February 2012 SMBC, saved as evidence that @zachweinersmith.bsky.social gave us all fair warning.

This article is so-so, but it's got one bit, screencapped below, that I think is the purest expression I've yet seen of Trump's appeal to his voters.

They love him solely because we hate him, because he has failed the same moral tests they have.

Not the only '60s comic to BADLY underestimate the number of monsterfucker girls out there.

If I might venture a suggestion...

Well, I'll say this for him... he found a third choice.

"Gee, Uncle Noah, surely after 9/11 America didn't go COMPLETELY insane, did it?"

"Let me show you this T-shirt I bought in October 2001, just in case someday somebody asked me that question."

Santa Claus is just training wheels for the Protestant God, but we've all kind of accepted that by now. That elf, though...

When I was raising a wolf hybrid, I would tell her that if she didn't come inside, I would carry her inside. All her Mighty Wilderness Predator dignity would be gone as she got hoisted like a fussy toddler.

After the first few times I did this, she got the message. Wolves can feel shame!

Finally, the "Assistant Editor's Month" letters page, in which they acknowledge that this was stupid and they're going to stop doing it.

Sharp-eyed fans might notice a cameo by a young Grant Morrison, in the role of Flash Thompson!

This is actually one of the more seamless replacements, which is not an endorsement.

Peter Sellers movies have aged better than Chevy Chase movies, and both have aged better than drive-ins. None have aged WELL, mind you...

This is the weird one, to my mind. Someone got a note that "teen-age" wasn't hyphenated any more, so they changed it from an adjective to a NOUN?

Also, by the 1980s, "swinger" had begun to change meanings, but apparently there was no memo about THAT.

"Who's the contemporary equivalent of Doris Day? I've got it! Blondie! They're basically the same act!"

In which Peter Parker attempts a Dennis Miller joke. Twice.

Both of these are terrible suggestions, from a man who picked out that shirt this morning and said "Yes, that is what I will wear in public."

Aunt May consistently likes only one thing on TV: fake Southern accents.

And now, for no reason, a thread of changes made to classic Spider-Man stories when they were reprinted in MARVEL TALES in the early 1980s. The idea was to update the pop culture references so they'd be less embarrassingly dated.

You can judge how well that worked for yourself.

The "only in NYC" has me wincing. Other cities have trains and animals too. Here in Portland, we have the famous Trimet Coyote, for example.
