MAJOR: Twin Cities Tenants joins five labor unions, together repping 25,900 members, to launch a rent strike drive, vowing to withhold rent March 1 if @governorwalz.mn.gov fails to deliver an eviction moratorium and rent relief. If launched, this would be the largest US rent strike in 100+ years.

You shouldn't buy what they say just because someone claims to be in your camp.

We can learn from the way race scientists sought legitimacy and got it through the academy, as detailed in Superior: The Return of Race Science, by Angela Saini.

That's what has happened here.

Blocking mentions of M*sk - I don't need to see every racist thing he says.

I look forward to when everyone (individual & media) can stop giving him time & attention, & he's globally seen as the evil, stupid, loser he is.

Everything he says - waste of air. Everything he types - waste of energy.

I do think that's the point. They've marketed "Artificial Intelligence" as mysterious, sexy, all-powerful. A sleight of hand that nods to science fiction, magic.

Whereas "machine learning" or "large language models" forces you to engage what's behind the façade, and - possibly - interrogate it.
Here's the thing - the entire FIELD is woo-woo. The notion of 'artificial intelligence' - ie abstract math as sentient, at least when represented by electronic pulses - is magical thinking; when a group of people tried to rebrand it as 'machine learning' in the 0s/10s, they were gradually pushed out
I'm pretty sure I know. They aren't. We're not going to really be able to make a lot of progress in dealing with the implications of this tech unless and until we get rid of all this "woo-woo" talk about LLMs. Anthropic pushing this line is PR, unserious.

border czar tom homan said DHS is ending its surge in minnesota. but minnesotans i spoke to (literally yesterday!) said ICE had ramped up its presence in st. cloud and surrounding small towns

The same day DHS announced the surge would end in Minnesota, ICE activity increased in small towns
The less densely populated areas outside the Twin Cities make it harder for protesters and observers to organize.

It is not unreasonable to ask people who want your vote to act like they deserve it.
With Klobuchar here is Sheriff Bill Brown of Santa Barbara, President of the Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA). In October, Brown announced his refusal to comply with a state law that bans ICE from wearing masks and requires identification.
Sheriffs and local law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.

I’m honored to receive the Legislator of the Year award from the Major County Sheriffs of America and will keep working together to protect Minnesotans across our state.

Hard not to draw parallels between how the US has enabled and emboldened roving violence against Palestinians in everyday life, and how that same tactic has been deployed here in Minneapolis.
Illegal Israeli settlers, backed by Israeli forces, attacked Palestinians in Masafer Yatta in the occupied West Bank. A child was assaulted, an elderly man detained, and livestock was released around homes.
