How well do people predict the results of studies?

@sdellavi.bsky.social and I leverage data from the first 100 studies to have been posted on the SSPP, containing 1,482 key questions, on which over 50,000 forecasts were placed. Some surprising results below.... 🧵👇

Often, data gathered by and about tribes has been shared with state and federal agencies; but those same agencies haven’t always shared their tribal-related statistics in return.

I was looking for James by Percival Everett on Pratt’s site and wondered if there was a visual way to show availability. So I’m building readius, a Chromium extension that shows which libraries have a book within walking, biking, or transit radius from an input address

I’m convinced mathematics is taught wrong.

Its beauty is buried under technical jargon and lifeless formulas. It should be be: clear, visual, practical.

My mission is to get you fluent in the math that will still be useful in 50 years.

I love that Zohran did not praise Cuomo in his speech. You absolutely do not have to say nice things about bad people. We should normalize that in “polite” politics: Praising bad people is not actually “civility.”

Early Mamdani with an amazing policy idea.
Two years ago I interviewed a 31-year-old NY state assemblymember about a 7-year-old girl killed by an SUV driver in his district. I hung up the phone, astonished that I'd talked to a legislator who so thoughtfully articulated what actually needs to change on our streets.

Charlotte's transport referendum has won.

1% sales tax increase is expected to generate $19 billion/20 years, funding:
—Transit (40%): Red Line commuter rail, Silver Line light rail, Gold Line extension, Blue Line extension
—Road projects (40%)
—Bus improvements, creating frequent bus network (20%)
Just with early vote reporting, Charlotte's transportation sales tax referendum is currently up 55–45%. But I caution this is just the early vote!

The reason why this is effective is because you're empowering people to inform themselves with information they input, not telling them random numbers based on the average.
