San Diego and Los Angeles face all the same macro headwinds. But in the former, housing permitting is up 40%, while in the latter, it has plummeted. What's the difference? Policy and administration.

Amid so much loss, it matters to name the victories too. The same day Renée Nicole Good was killed, Avelo Airlines announced it would stop flying deportation flights—ending a $150M ICE contract. UUs across the country helped make this happen. Read more: https://bit.ly/3ZHr2QQ

The big need at the moment is rent support. Many people in MN can’t safely get to work and rent is due in a few days.

Unless there is an eviction moratorium, lots of vulnerable folks could end up homeless.
This is a great resource for how and where to help with the ICE occupation in Minnesota.

I’m going to pin this post and also try to keep a thread going with active calls for action.

Feel free to add them as you see them if it’s helpful to store everything in one place.

Hi! Are you doomscrolling? Have you moisturized your hands recently? Dry winter weather can lead to painful cracked skin. I recommend using products specifically formulated for this and applying Aquaphor on top.

Also, sleep deprivation makes everything harder. Try not to stay up too late tonight.

What @prisonculture.bsky.social always says is: find the thing you can do and do it. You can’t do all the things. (Or something like that but more eloquent). I remind myself when I feel I should be writing marching observing delivering organizing meeting reporting shopping
I paid my therapist a zillion dollars to tell me this, so I’m passing it on to anyone else in MN who needs to hear it:

Think of taking time away to recharge not as not doing the work, but as doing quality control for the work. You’re not going to be able to show up to do it well if you’re depleted

A reminder that ICE hasn’t slowed down in Minneapolis at all.

Outside of Minnesota, it might feel like everything has changed since Alex Pretti’s murder. But ICE hasn’t actually lost any power and they’re continuing to terrorize our communities.

While independent bookstores are giving out free whistles, hosting protest sign making events, and donating proceeds to mutual aid, Amazon is *checks notes* providing technology that assists ICE in their terrorizing of communities.

Independent bookstores deserve your support. Amazon does not.

At this point, it should be really really clear that arguing for more or better training for ICE is arguing that they be trained to kill and brutalize more effectively. Their behavior isn’t a one-off error.

if you're looking to learn about what are some of the lowest-hanging fruits in terms of local elections in places that directly help ICE, this is for you:
NEW: There are 2,400+ elections for DA & sheriff this year.

These matter hugely to criminal justice & policing—including: *these are often officials who decide ICE collaboration.*

So I took a dive into these 2,400+ races to identify early hotspots and battlegrounds.

Lots of things we gotta fix! But damn, I'd love to see a bill banning tear gas, pepper spray and the use of other "gas" agents by law enforcement. We signed international laws against gassing soldiers! Using tear gas on your own people is a disgrace.
Here's how to identify some crowd control munitions, canisters of which federal agents have left on the ground after deploying them against people in Minnesota. bit.ly/3YWp1jE

Senate Dems needn’t come to agreement on everything right now. That’s a path to the lowest common denominator. They simply have to agree to filibuster DHS approps. As to which of a host of anti-brutality and anti-authoritarian proposals to advance, let a thousand flowers bloom.
