Incredibly funny how much political discussion is driven by the four things at the bottom while everyone else is getting cooked on Facebook looking at pictures of AI Eminem opening nursing homes for crying veterans

I think that’s a clear signal of who gets to work in journalism / media and who doesn’t. That you can help elevate a presidential candidate that you’re having a romantic relationship with, advise and strategize for him, and keep your position. But if you so much as post about Gaza then that’s it.

So I did suck it up and finish the game (basic ending, 77% complete). Unfortunately I did end up having fun but only in the last couple of hours once I had unlocked all the movement abilities and upgraded the nail 3/4 of the way by looking up guides online. Was it worth the annoyance? 🤷‍♂️
No offense to people who love it, but I enjoy a lot of Metroidvanias and I cannot understand the appeal of Hollow Knight. I bounced off it earlier this year after 10+ hours, but I gave it another shot tonight and it’s just as aggravating as when I quit before.

Went to a science and tech high school, and then went to college fully intending to major in computer science and/or math. I kept up with music because I liked it, and kept doing more and more and waffling on what I wanted to major in.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

I saw Hadestown this week for the second time (LOVE it) and was looking for some intelligent discussion of it online to clarify my thoughts but 90% of it is “if it were me I wouldn’t have turned around but I guess I’m built different.”

Could argue the misogyny Summers expressed both publicly while president of Harvard and in emails to Epstein says more about the culture at our most elite institutions than any of the frontpage freakouts over academia in the past few years but hey

The only thing that's interesting about Nuzzi is the story of how an amoral careerist with no interest in policy and abysmal ethics became an acclaimed national political reporter. But rather than tell that story, the entire media seems desperate to play a part in it.
It rocks that all 20 people who genuinely think the Olivia Nuzzi stuff is interesting have editorial discretion at major media outlets. Just publish your group chats

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

This is not quite the same but I was having an exchange with someone on TikTok recently about subway systems, and I said that the difference between X and Y was “night and day.” They complained that we weren’t talking about how late the trains ran.
ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

This is abhorrent and repugnant. It’s further evidence of the vile and pernicious nature of these awful platforms. It makes me furious, incendiary with rage. Causes me to fall into deep sadness, melancholy and depression.
For each additional moral–emotional word in a social media post, the number of shares increases 13%

Our new meta-analysis finds robust evidence of moral contagion (N=4,821,006)

The moral contagion effect is even stronger in larger, pre-registered studies (17%).
