While a bunch of hippies were riding down Mount Tamalpais in Marin County, California, a similar movement was happening in Crested Butte, Colorado. Here's Al Maunz, an early "klunker" mechanic, adding dirt bike, BMX, and banana bike parts to junked cruisers in 1975.

The @thewaroncars.bsky.social podcast eviscerated him once too. John Forester was a world-class jerk responsible for many bad things!
It took a few days but I got through NJB’s video where he completely destroyed John Forester’s books & credibility. JF flooded the zone with BS & sadly he set things back for years.

Highly recommend anyone in safe streets advocacy to watch!

The stated assumption in e.g. Alberta (where I'm from), has been that we were too small to really move the needle, and it would be suicide to "hobble" ourselves when China kept increasing emissions anyways

So, uh, yeah
This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Today is supposed to be pretty warm, but to get to the record High we would need to get way up to 17°C, from 2005.
