One of the easiest ways to shoot down the idea that "AI" is an expert is to show how it deals with something people know about.

Younger readers may not get this as most appliances come pre-wired, but anyone 35+ can see these are chaotic fire hazards.

From Mastodon, AI asked how to wire a plug:

This is why separate infra for active travel is direly needed
Well that was interesting ride to work, had some unknown bearded gammon decided to reverse their oversized car to block me off to have a go at me with clear intent of harm. Tried to get past & he rammed car into me but I got past & he then drove ahead & dangerously blocked the road.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

This happened for real I’m told on good authority. People paid to go to Sarajevo to shoot victims in the street. Needs investigating

They've been trying to bring this about for decades because they think they are going to get *raptured*. If they can bring about the end of the world they believe they are going to get beamed up to heaven.

Having lived in the Netherlands for 7 years - cycling close to every single day of that - what keeps cyclists safe is great cycle path design, the fact that every driver also cycled and the fact that if a car hits a cyclist the fault lies with the driver.

This but with more Doctor Who!
I can’t point to one thing exactly that radicalized me but this is a good start.

Next time someone asks you about energy and land use, maybe remind them that the ~35 million acres that currently grow corn for ethanol in the US could produce ~15 PWh per year of electricity from solar photovoltaics. That's ~3.5 times more than *total annual generation from all US power plants*.

This looks very interesting. It claims to have a 100 MHz bandwidth oscilloscope which if true makes it useful for lots of quite serious applications.

I'm becoming a big fan of waxed bike chains. I've been running 3 since Christmas & interchange them every weekend, rewaxing the one I take off.

The best thing is that you don't get that nasty greasy mix of lube & grit.

Now, let's ensure public transport is added for those who need it. We should choose healthy neighbourhoods over 25,000 cars.

Cars, right?
"Too often, these vehicles become a menace when used at high speeds or in places they don’t belong."

I'm trying to imagine a world in which the Tribune Editorial Board applies this logic to automobiles and bike lanes.
Editorial: Secretary of State Giannoulias puts e-bike safety on the table
We are not letting teenaged motorcyclists out on our roads without oversight. So why is it different for electric bikes?
