Or this might work, it could allow the cable outer to be run all the way through the frame and then along the chain stay, it wouldn't be exposed at all to mud.

The gear cable to my rear derailleur has worn through the guide on the base of the BB shell and looks like it's eating into the shell itself.
I'm thinking of replacing the guide with a short piece of gear cable outer and clamping it on. That should help keep it free mud too?
Would that work?
