I have the same job my dad had, but no way could I afford the house I grew up in now. My lifestyle is definitely worse than it would have been as an adult in the 80s or 90s. I think there are structural reasons for this that no politician could fix, but nostalgia is not always wrong.

I think the correct way to think of this as a failed experiment in modern democracy that lasted about 50 years, from the end of segregation to now, lots of countries fail at democracy so in that respect it's hardly unique, but the fallout's gonna be historically bad
