More rain is on the way in a couple of hours, but in the meantime, downtown LA is looking kinda lovely this morning! (assisted by the bliss of a traffic-free 101)

Expect to see a lot of this classic Onion headline, from 23 years ago, over the coming weeks.

Just woke up even angrier. Impeach, convict, remove. Draft articles now. Either we have a representative government or we don’t. Do not shut up about this until there’s a vote.

Scarlett Johansson makes total sense - we did a whole run of her movies on @weenjoypodcast.bsky.social AND MCU Phase 1 AND Jurassic World Rebirth, but Jon M. Chu threw me. But I guess two Wickeds and one Now You See Me sequel was enough and I didn't do a lot of director repeats in 2025.

Alright, I THINK I've listed all movies (both new release and revival screenings) I saw in the theater in 2025, kicking off with Bloody Axe Wound, ending with Rental Family. I wish Letterboxd let you include the same movie multiple times for my repeats, but ah well.

Heh, and now Fright Rags is selling an officially licensed Stranger Things shirt that is a Dream Warriors poster homage.

The Stranger Things finale has its fair share of missteps you could zero in on but it got the broad strokes right in a way that ultimately feels satisfying. The epilogue could have easily been trimmed down but those final three scenes do a great job of delivering a proper goodbye to these characters

Obviously there are very specific parameters here - January 1 is the only full day Netflix is allowing it to play in theaters and it’s not like it would have Avatar style legs if they could book it longer - but it’s still wild to see Stranger Things get Avengers-level dominance in a multiplex.

With the Stranger Things finale arriving today, here’s a couple of flashbacks to the beginning in summer 2016: Me interviewing Winona Ryder for Season 1, and Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, the Duffer Brothers and giant Jenga at the TCA press tour right after the show debuted.

This is a major “eyes up here” moment for the glasses and earring dude with the Spider-Man pattern shirt and it looks like he’s failing.

I don’t agree that the rollout of the Doomsday teasers hasn’t worked. They have people non-stop talking about the movie a year out. Some watch the leaked trailers (while many are unaware of them), then the official releases are still getting a ton of views and reaction vids too.

The fact that this comic came out around, what, the third or fourth one, but now we’ve been stuck at twelve Friday the 13th movies for nearly seventeen years…

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

What will be the next movie to prominently feature the main theme from The Shining?

(Yes, I know it’s “Dies irae,” it long predates The Shining, and is in a million movies in some form, KPop Demon Hunters included. But Zootopia 2 and Sentimental Value lean into doing it Shining-style!)
