After like a decade of rocking Intel + NVIDIA in my gaming PC I’m going back to AMD. Missed the boat on RAM, no building my own with these prices – got a Ryzen + Radeon prebuilt.

Going to install Bazzite or other Linux distro on it. Microsoft ending security support for Windows 10 was my catalyst.

I don't think free speech on campus ought to mean that a young coddled bigot gets to use their ignorance to casually destroy the career of a knowledgeable trans person on a random Wednesday
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

It's our 5th year writing an end-of-year newsletter to send to friends & family. I tried to communicate what I now do to people who have no idea how websites work, have never seen or heard the term "A/B test," or know what a product manager is. …I think this may be the best thing I've ever written?

Professional societies keep beclowning themselves buying into a lie about what an LLM "summary" is. They are inherently counterfeit: not an epistemic product of the ideas in the source, but summary-shaped text linguistically based on *other* works (in the training corpus) that use related language.
This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:

My parents' cat Bridget vanished. As the weeks dragged on they became ever more worried, so to distract himself my dad began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up at some of art & music's most important moments.

YES! this is what techbros who have let their creative selves wither call "procrastination" or "inefficiency" and try to technologise away, not understanding that it is the source of creativity and imagination and everything good
When I sit down to write I'm not consciously pulling from my notes, I'm drawing on the 6 months I spent reading biographies, watching hours of interviews, etc. There is a volume of research, of effort & time that is required to create something meaningful to draw from.

Annual reminder that if you see a menorah in someone’s window, that’s an act of defiance against bigotry and hate. It’s also pride and bravery.

It’s says “a Jew lives here” and that’s both painting a target but also reminding everyone that we still exist and we always will.

Oh hey, you can finally just buy Monument Valley 3 for iOS. (It launched as a Netflix exclusive and then a few months ago Netflix was suddenly like “bye!!!” and unpublished it from the App Store. This is why any news of Netflix acquiring game studios saddens me – they don’t give a shit about games.)

- you cannot trust most media of reality anymore
- programs barely function
- energy prices
- literal psychosis
- your voice can be literally stolen for evil
- more spyware

but hey, you can avoid paying an artist.
