I just received a contract on Docusign for review and signing, and it offered to give me an AI-generated summary that I could read instead to save time.

That's AN AI-GENERATED SUMMARY ***OF A CONTRACT***, in case you need to let that sink in.

This is so true. 99% of book bans have the intended effect: you never hear about those books again. The 1% of banned books that become infamous bestsellers elsewhere are not the norm.

I was featured (very briefly) in this piece on Restoried Bookshop, a Chicago indie bookstore that focuses on work by AAPI and other BIPOC storytellers 💜

The launch party for DEATH IN THE CARDS is at this store on May 17 from 3-5pm, so I hope you can join us!

This also goes for digital books and digital audiobooks you get from the library--they pay for the licenses, and the more copies available at once the more they are paying/"purchasing." Go use Libby and Hoopla, it counts as support!
I've seen a few people mention (one to me) others before and now today that libraries are advocating free stuff/not sales for the author.
Libraries don't acquire books by magic. They buy copies with money. It can be hundreds/thousands of sales. People pay taxes to use the library. Nothing is free.

we need to make cynicism uncool.

like having doubts in your heart and being overwhelmed is one thing, but a lot of us got trained by twitter to post our most cynical snark for engagement and that broke something in a lot of us. (me included!)

giving up is not actually that sophisticated!
It is kind of hard to find out who the actual bad actors are and who are just lazy, cynical people who don't want to fight.
