Late last night, @sarahweinman.com 's new book Without Consent popped up on my book machine and I haven't been able to put it down. All her books are amazing, but this one is required fucking reading in our current era when women's bodily autonomy is under renewed assault.

Day 11 of the #NoirvemberChallenge - Favorite Bar Scene or Cocktail in a Film Noir. For the first (and probably only) time, I'm going Neo on this one with The Last Seduction.

Here's an essay on writer's block I wrote a few years ago - as much for myself to read as much as for anyone else. It's pretty good, I think.

I'm only 99 genders at the moment, I clearly need to step my pussy up.

Day 9 of the #NoirvemberChallenge Favorite Dan Duryea Film Noir. Love him in everything, but my pick is Too Late for Tears. "Don't ever change, Tiger. I don't think I'd like you with a heart."

BRB buying a dozen least weasels
If you’re wondering what a “least weasel” is, they absolutely live up to the name. This is the least amount of animal you can have that can still meet the bar for “is weasel”

Day 8 of the #NoirvemberChallenge "Now You're Talking, Noir!" Favorite Line in a Film Noir. There are so many it's hard to choose. "Strictly poison under the gravy." "You're a cookie full of arsenic." But I'm going with Jan Sterling in Ace in the Hole "I don't go to church. Kneeling bags my nylons."

For the @theglobeandmail.com, I wrote about the persistent myths and misconceptions surrounding spousal rape, and a novel legal theory that might reframe the way lawyers and judges (and society) counters them.
Opinion: Spousal rape remains all too misunderstood
More than 40 years after Canada made sexually assaulting one’s spouse a crime, myths remain pervasive within the legal system

#NoirvemberChallenge Day 6 Coolest Film Noir Character. Cool is such a loaded word, slippery, subjective and ultimately in the eye of the beholder. Also traditionally masculine-coded, which is why I wanted to go with a female character this year.

Day 5 of the #NoirvemberChallenge - Film Noir You'd Show Someone
Who's Never Seen One. I'm pretty sure Sunset Boulevard has been my answer to this question every year, but that's because it's already part of the mainstream pop-culture lexicon.

#NoirvemberChallenge Day 3: The Film Noir That Made You a Fan. Maybe more like melodramatic proto-noir, but I'm gonna say The Shanghai Gesture. Ona Munson's draggy wigs! Bratty sub Gene Tierney! Victor Mature in a fez! A goth girl's gateway drug to the hard (boiled) stuff.
