Probably not social enough for social media. My opinions have never been those of my employer's.

It's incredibly demoralizing to constantly see the highest institutions of government and academia and the most important and widely seen news outlets knuckle under one after another, but then to see the gulf between that and the bravery of communities and neighbors and teachers - that's something

Stephen A Smith’s problem is that he believes power is morality

Which allows him to take immoral positions and call it analysis

Been thinking about this for a little while.

Even with all the current context, I'm still genuinely shocked how many people are trying to argue a different truth than what we can all see from very clear video of the incident.

It's genuinely Orwellian. Straight out of 1984.

Just saw a picture of stuffed animals in the woman's car and man...I really am struggling to find the words right now. This is all just so unspeakably devastating, and I don't know how we come back from it.

My thoughts right now are with the loved ones of the victim murdered by ICE, an individual who was out in our community because of the care and love for our immigrant neighbors. The agent who murdered our neighbor must be arrested. 1/

I see some replies that this can't happen because Republicans control both houses. First, democrats can at least try. If the goal is to make sure everyone knows this is unacceptable, the effort is worth as much as the outcome. Second, we shouldn't let Republicans off the hook. They have agency.

I don't know how to describe it, but there's this profound brokenness in the American body politic where nobody can take the implications of anything seriously. People keep saying things that should be existential threats to the political system, and then everyone just keeps going on as normal.
fuck outta here

My awareness of Haitian politics is only enough to say that Aristide's tenure is complicated.

But if there is any country on earth that has been given a rawer deal than Haiti over the years, I'm not aware of it.
A reminder that before France & the US overthrew Aristede in 2004 they called him & his circle drug traffickers too. Their real reason: stopping Aristede from pressing a case for reparations, not only for slavery but for the Indemnity (debt France made Haiti pay for *depriving slaveholders* of $)

At this point, I think this needs to be a litmus test. Anyone, regardless of party, who does not vote to impeach everyone involved in this now must be primaried out so it can be done immediately after election.

And I'm not rosy-eyed about the election. This still is true.
We have to impeach him.

If you are visiting here from X because the CSAM thing was a bridge too far, welcome.

I'd encourage you to carefully consider whether the things you heard about Bluesky on X are true or whether they were lies spread by the guy who owns X who controls what posts you see on his site.

@modestholdings.com, Is there any way the Johnson County Board of Supervisors could stop subsidizing CSAM by maintaining a twitter account? I'm sure it's not high on the priority list, but this crap makes me feel gross.

If no one is working on a remake of Four Lions centered on the Oath Keepers or Three Percenters or something like that, then what good is the creative bankruptcy of Hollywood?

When my first kid was three, I realized what made that age so maddening was that they can interact with you like they're normal humans but they aren't able to hold that together from one minute to the next. Gradually, I figured out that pattern never stops for anyone, the intervals just get longer.
one unexpected outlook change from being a dad is taking the self care people 10x more seriously when it comes to dealing with weirdly directed anger and rage (including Online). many angry posts should have been naps or little packets of crackers

I still rank The Last Jedi higher than most for exactly this reason. There was so must *possibility* opened by it.

And then TROS said "Psych!"
The idea that heroes can come from nowhere is simple, yet resonates so much with the human condition. It's so much more interesting and engaging than being obsessed with bloodlines and the Skywalker legacy.
Josh O’Connor calls THE LAST JEDI “so beautiful.”

“The end of that movie - how anyone could be a Jedi... I just remember seeing that movie in the cinemas and I wept of that last image with the boy. It’s just one of the most iconic images in cinema”
